I do not understand why Americans have to be downgraded or insulted just because Amanda Knox is from the U.S. and was supported by her country. Regardless of what county Amanda Knox was from her country would stand behind her because she is NOT GUILTY.

America is a great country and I am glad to be American. Anytime another country is in trouble, who comes to help? Yeah, thats right: AMERICA.

I do not think she is not guilty just because she is American. I believe she is not guilty because of the mishandling of evidence and lies that were told. She was made out to be some promiscuous, narcissistic, drug abuser, such as her "making out with her boyfriend" or "buying lingerie." Okay, she was shocked. She had never been in that type of situation before. I imagine she was scared. Her boyfriend was comforting her! I would expect my fiancé to do the same for me. She stayed at his house because hers had become a crime scene. She had to buy all new clothes.... but you only hear about the lingerie to further support the idea of her being that promiscuous.

She may not have acted the way you think an innocent girl should act, but that does not mean she is guilty. People respond to things differently. I, nor do you, know how you would act in the same situation if you have never been put in that situation. Sure, you can say you would imagine you would act differently but until you've been there, you don't know.

Thats just my opinion.

You're free to love your country and whatnot, but I couldn't resist taking issue with this statement.

America was the LAST nation to join the fight in both WORLD WARS. They sat back and watched while the fighting was going on until Japan and Germany gave them no other choice.

As to just about every war since then, who do you think started them all?! (Selling arms, stealing resources, etc) America invades other WEAKER countries when there's profit to be gained.

It was also one of the last countries to abolish slavery, give women the right to vote, and acknowledge gay rights. It still remains one of the most arrogant and violent nations on Earth. So tell me why it is so great.

It was mainly founded by the gullible, who were lured across the Atlantic with the false promise of gold, which perhaps is why Americans are so gullible to this day. You believe all the propaganda you read, and are slow to break free from the shackles of religion and superstition.

The only reason you think you're so great is because you keep telling yourselves that. You constantly put every other nation down and present false stories in your media, perpetuating your beliefs.

In this particular case, for example, how many of you actually read the court reports? You make assumptions of innocence or guilt based on TV and newspaper reports; you are spoonfed a position, and you simply accept it without digging deeper.

I bet 95+% of the people on here, whether they believe AK was innocent or guilty, couldn't describe even the basics of the crime scene, or give the reasons given in the court reports. It is a complex case, yet you people assume the truth is what you've been told.

Maybe you shouldnt get all your info about the history of America from newspaper articles and your media...

And I am not going to disagree with your statement about gullible people in America, but just because there are some Americans who are as you described does not mean every American is like that. I am sure there are "gullible" people where you live. Since when does where you live make your gullible??

Sure there are some people who believe everything they read and hear but those people are EVERYWHERE, not just America.. it is absurd to say that Americans are gullible.

Apparently you are not from America, so how would you know that "Americans are gullible to this day" because all you get is the media, newspaper articles and etc about America where you are from. Who's not to say that is bias?

I certainly am not what you classify Americans as. I most surely did not get my position from reading American newspapers and the news. And just because I read something does not mean I believe it without further investigation. I know plenty of people who are not like that. so how dare you. You do not know whether or not I read the court reports. So, stop judging and making assumptions based on your own biasses.

Oh, and furthermore, just because America may have a sucky president and a corrupt government, that does not mean every American is like that.

Just like what happened in the Amanda Knox trial, like how Italy tried to convey her. They found every negative aspect and blew it up and and made it seem as though she was something she is not. No one is perfect and we all have qualities about us that can be negative and sinful, but that is because we are HUMAN. Just as no human is perfect, no country is perfect.

You are so correct in your post , but you also forgot to mention that Americans are the most insular people in the world . They hold world series baseball , car race and other world series sporting events where the world starts in LA & ends in New York !

You know what scares me? All those people that were cheering like it was some kind of football game. People who waved flags, no matter that they did have no idea about the trial or Amanda Knox. All they knew is that she is american and that was enough for them to say "WTF! she can't be guilty".
That is scary. I have nothing against americans, i actually see, listen, wear and eat almost everything that is from America or has something to do with America, but i can say that americans are the most hypocrite people in the world.
Chris Rock, a great comedian, said it in his stand up comedy. Whenever is the word "america", there's fuc*d up people, who are bashing their chests, just because they are americans, like they are some kind of Gods. People freking out "i'm an american, i'm an american, fuc* all the foreigners". So what? Like Chris Rock said it, you are american, cause you got lucky to come out of your mother's pussy on american soil, that's it.

I love America (I'm a Brit), I've been there many times and always found Americans very friendly. Yea I've heard the war thing many times (blame the Governments, not the American people) and Vietnam was America cleaning up after the French bailed.

Anyway I do agree that the cheering/flag waving was extremely insensitive when Knoz was aquited. Now that Knox is signing a multi million dollar deal it would be a nice gesture to offer some to Metediths family (guilty or not), just a thought.

I don't understand how celebrating when Amanda was cleared was insensitive to anyone. She went through hell for no good reason. Her coming home was worthy of celebration.

Meredith's family has already said they will not accept money from Amanda nor would it be a good idea to offer it. It would simply cause controversy and be seen by many as a payoff. Amanda needs to get her story told. She also deserves compensation for 4 years stolen from her.

Some seem to feel Amanad should join a nunnery or something. To spend the rest of her life in seclusion. I'd prefer her to live the rest of her life as best she can.

I know it did to some. I know some felt she should have sneeked back into this country rather that enter it openly as a free woman. I know that some thought it insensitive for her be shopping, going to a party, or doing most things a young woman does in this country. She deserves to live what is left of her life. If some find it insensitive, that is their problem.

I agree Pete, remember I was defending the US, but what I was trying to say was the media had shots of some Americans, cheering, wearing T-Shirts and flag waving that did offend many British people including Meredith's family. I also found it offensive that the same media couldn't wait to stick a camera in Knox's face on the plane home.

The airline had been critized for upgrading Amanda's flight home and allowing her to wait transfer to the plane in the London airport in a select room. But not doing so would be insensitive to both the Knox family and Meridith's family. Neither family deserved having a camera stuck in Amanda's face the whole trip home. The little press conference in the Seatle airport was subdued and tastefully done. I see nothing insensitive about it.

I think it was British Journalists trying to get to her. Actually I can't defend our media against US media-as there is a huge cell phone hacking scandal about Rupert Murdochs company here, not sure you Americans know much about it-don't suppose it would be on Fox News!

from what I can see outside of TMZ it is British tabloids who continue to dog her. I can understand British journalism taking interest in the murder of a British girl, but the hatchet job they with assistance of the italian tabloids and Italian officials is dispicable. Some people complain that Meredith has been forgotted but who was it who made Amanda center stage. Tabloids.

The murder deserved a proper investigation and if Amanda were to be convicted she deserved for it to be based on solid evidence derived from that investigation. That didn't happen here which is one reason many Americans were very unhappy. Both Amanda and Meredith deserved better.

I hate to break it to you but you're a racist.

I have an Irish last name and my family came to America during the potato famine. No one in my line has been born outside the US in 170 years. Yes, I am of European descent but I do not consider my whiteness the most important thing about me.

I live in a neighborhood with people of all colors and national backgrounds. We are all Americans. I have more in common with them than I do with anyone living in Ireland.

It's not your blood that matters, it's your culture, your neighborhood, and who you consider your people.

So stop being ignorant. My pale skin and blue eyes don't make me a European any more than my husband's dark skin makes him an African. We are both Americans.

A Jewish author's mother once pointed out that if all the Jews claiming to have survived the camps were telling the truth then you had to wonder who Hitler actually killed. I often feel the same about 'Irish' Americans. It's not so surprising in a world where victimhood is a cherished asset of course, and where suffering is a competitive sport, but there are in fact few more 'racist' peoples on earth than Africans for your information. Indeed you probably applaud 'black pride' because the nice man on television tells you to. That the same racial pride in white people makes you uncomfortable is really a testament to brainwashing, not reasoned argument, since what you approve of in one group, but actively warn against in your own, points to mental imbalance and self-loathing. Labelling people as 'racist' is really just a cheap slur if the truth be known, a discredited first and last resort of those who strive to silence viewpoints they're too frightened to hear. Don't ask whether an opponent is a racist. Ask only whether he or she is right.

Away from this and regarding Amanda Knox the American media have merely done what they always do by portraying a likely murderer as the victim of anti-Amerian spite. Anyone with an interest in the case should perhaps read this:

Honestly, that first sentence was ridiculous and out of line. Also, there is a such thing as racism, and FYI, the Italian court,as of today, overturned Knox and Sollecito's conviction for the second time in 4 years. Meaning that they obviously never had enough evidence for a case against either of them to begin with. The real murderer of Meredith Kercher, Rudy Guede, is in jail, and only implicated the other two in order to get his sentence reduced---that's the real travesty of that whole sham of a trial Knox and Sollecito were put through. At least both of them will finally be able to go on with their lives without the threat of of another sentence hanging over their heads. And, hopefully the Kercher family will find some solace and closure in the fact that their daughter's killer---Guede---is actually locked up.

I'm English, and definitely NOT anti American! I hold them in as high a regard as my own countrymen! We share most of the same laws, your legal system is, after all, based on our own. We share the same values, and have been allies through some very nasty periods in history and triumphed. What people don't understand is why the US seems to be wearing blinkers regarding this case. American's here and elsewhere make sweeping statements about Amanda Knox's innocence, while ignoring some salient facts that simply cannot be ignored OR disputed. While i'll concede this lady was tried by media in a disgraceful manner, might i point out the following?
No internet activity was found on that night when she said she was on the computer, since that wasn't true..what WAS she doing?
She said she slept till 10.30am the following morning, yet she was at a store at around 7am.Was she sleepwalking?
She falsely implicated a totally innocent man, had he not been able to prove his whereabouts on that night he'd be rotting in an Italian gaol for a couple of decades!
Broken glass was lying ON TOP of items strewn around the apartment, leading the police to conclude that the burglary was staged, as the room was trashed BEFORE the window had been broken! Either that, or it was a very clever thief who managed to search the apartment BEFORE he broke in!
All of the above is in the trial transcripts that anyone can read online..how anyone can conclude Knox has been truthful about that night baffles me..and NOT because i'm British!
People HAVE been offensive about America and Americans, which is inexcusable, but outsiders get the impression that US citizens think Knox merits special treatment REGARDLESS of the evidence, simply because of her nationality!
Had she not behaved in such a extraordinary manner after Meredith's murder, she might not be in the unenviable mess she finds herself now!
