Far too long

Quebec filmmakers make some outstanding films, more than a few of which, over the years, have been nominated for Academy Awards. This could have also been outstanding, except the director didn't appear to know how to pace and economize. He keeps adding layers to a murder mystery when he should be taking layers away. The result is a film that clocks in at more than two hours, when it could easily have fit into 90-95 minutes. Toward the end, things got out of control, and the confusion was tactile. Nice try, but no cigar.
