Just give her back her compact.

She got the drop on him with his own pistol. He drew his other and cocked it pointing it at her head. Then she did the same thing and he was forced to push the pistol she had on him out of the way and she pulled the trigger, discharging it. It's obvious she would have killed him. The Man should have just given her back her compact when she asked for it back.

At that point it's obvious he has some sort of code. He should respect that she must have one as well.
