Really looking forward to this.

There is a poster for this in my local cinema in Edinburgh.
I am not Polish but I know the story, the infant Polish republic;s army stops the Red Army in a huge battle.
The Bolshevik revolution stays in Russia.
It could make a great film with cavalry charges, early tanks, armoured trains and a country fighting for its survival.
I fear it will be very nationalistic and not mention the role of the French generals who advised the Polish army.

I take it the market in Britain for this film will mostly be Polish migrants?

Battle scenes and 3D effects are good but script and acting are terrible. There are tanks (realy good replicas of Renault FT-17), impressive cavalry and even French generals and American pilots. Unfortunately movie is a big and costly disappointment.

Thanks for the reply,I will still see it because the period of history fascinates me.

I check again - unfortunately scene with French generals was cut from cinema realese. Maybe they will add it to DVD.:

It does not matter, there are people who argue about the role of the French generals, some say the victory was all down to them, but the Polish generals had a lot of experience of fighting, not in Polish uniform of course.
Even if the plan was French the fighting was done by Poles who were highly motivated to stop Poland coming under foreign control again.

If the French angle is missing from the film it is hoped it is due to time reasons rather than populist ones, but I don't grudge the Poles the glory of the story.

Direcor said that this scene was cut because slows down action. It was funny (and historicaly accurate) scene. More or less like this:
- Pilsudski (in French): How many divisions you colud provide?
- Weygand: None.
- Pilsudski: So why you came here?
- Weygand: To advise.
- Pilsudski (angry, back in Polish) to Wieniawa: send them away! ;)

Later was some other scenes with Weygand but also was cut.

well, I certainly wouldn't judge so authoritatively the script and acting as terrible. Actually, I was impressed by the latter one. And then it was so great to see all the historic people alive and so.. human; surely better stimulates your imagination than reading about them at school only. As for the script - I don't know how many bits were left on the montage floor, but it's true you could feel something was missing, but in my case.. I even hungered for more :)
Personally, I enjoyed the movie a lot and can't get all the criticism :]

Why would french generals be in Poland ? the battle seemed lost , no frenchman would stay there. oh yah it did stop communism from spreading to france in 1921.
right?
Thats probably a bad thing? or would the english have joined forces with em ?

sigh , this battle is studied at westpoint as a major battle of the 20 century , ask me how I know ?
