4.4 for such a well made film?

Has the world gone crazy?
My only explanation about this is that Russian viewers (I don't mean that they necessarily saw the movie) considered it insulting and did they worst. And that, although the script tries to be fair about Russians. It mentions that there were atrocities by communists as well as by anti-communist Poles, and the White Cossacks and also positively portrayed.
I found Taras Bulba far more polarized and yet this Polish "answer" is rather mild propaganda.
Maybe the depiction of the Catholic church is the most intense exaggeration, and even that is done in a very elegant way, very Hollywood style.
I am not religious, I am not a Pole, I just like cinema and history and I gave it a 9.
I hope that I am not unfair to Russian friends, maybe I am wrong, I just try to understand what happened with this production. I can't believe that viewers just hated such a good peace of art.

Once upon a time there was a Polish fisherman that cought the wish granting Golden Fish. She told him if he lets her go, she will grant him three wishes - under one condition. For every single thing he gets, his neighbour would get it doubled!
So the fisherman said: I want a beautiful, large house with a lovely garden!
And Fish got him the house. And of course - two lovely houses for his neighbour.
For the second wish he said: I want a beautiful, sexy lover!
And Fish got him the lady. And of course - two lovely, sexy ladies for his neighbour.
For the last, third wish the fisherman said: I want one of my testicles to fell off.

That's Polish mind. Envy, malice, mischievousness. Most of the voters are probably Polish, voting low to level the sticking out nail back to where it belongs. Sad.

First I would hardly describe the polish people with words like "Envy, malice, mischievousness."
Second, the tale that you're talking about is a Russian story by Alexander Pushkin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_the_Fisherman_and_the_Fish) , not a Polish story.
Lastly, I was raised in the US (though I am Polish) and I thought that the movie was very well made and doesn't deserve the low mark that it has on here. The cinematography and acting were superb. I would definitely recommend. I give it a solid 9 as well.

Dear neilsielski - come back to the Old Country and you'll see the envy, malice and mischievousness on your own eyes. I've spent my 31 years here watching the vicious circle of smearing the feces on one's opponents. Just observing the political scene, where no sense could be found and reason is in deep, deep retreat can give you the feeling.
Of course, most of the Nation are normal folks. But the percentage of loudmouthed idiots is quite high - and those are the poop-smearers, envious, malicious bastards, which cannot stand their fellow countryman success.

PS. I voted 8, the movie is very good. Objectivly speaking ;-)

I totally agree with you. I rated it 7/10 though. It is a very good movie but the historical context of the war was kind of neglected by the moviemakers.

Very good movie; deserves at least an 8 out of 10. Why so many low ratings? I feel sure it is Polish people who have some kind of problem with this movie. I am Danish, and I often think Danish movies are pretty crappy, even when they succeed abroad. Satisfying everyone is impossible.

I think this was a great movie and it goes well with the view presented in Doctor Zhivago. It does not indeed give a flattering view of the "world revolution", but if anyone knows about Polish history this piece will make an intensive experience.

Reality television spoils fiction.
