Kingdom of Heaven portrayed Saladin in a just manner - he was shown as a ruthless and cunning conqueror, but who has every respect for the other religions. That movie even showed the shameful politics going within the Crusader armies shows a "christian" king as one of the antagonists.

Compared to that Fetih 1453 shows Constantine XI as a incompetent, pompous fool, who is neither tolerant nor just towards others...this movie is simply too biased in favor of the Ottomans.

I don't think it was biased. Director is a Turkish so it is veyr normal that he represented the incidents from a Turkish point of view.

The movie also represented Constantine XI as a honorable man who fought for his city until he died.

Such a sensitive historical war could not be represented more impartial than this.

Although of Greek origin I think it is quite okay for a Turkish production to show the Ottoman point of view. It only remains for a Greek producer to come up with a Greek epic movie biased towards the Hellenic viewpoint. The result would be the same either way, the Turks won 100 to zero. Conclusions ,however, would be radically different: Turkish version,, corrupt, degenerate and devious Greeks beaten. Greek version, barbarous Turks destroy last vestiges of the 2000 year old Roman Empire. After all -believe it not- academic studies carried our by British experts found that modern Greeks and Turks share common genes. They do all share very similar cultures because of living together and inter mingling of races and ethnics over many centuries. Perhaps in a decade or so a new Greek-Turkish epic movie production of the Fall (Gain) of Constantinople will be entirely free of mutual stereotypes.

There is no argument that Ridley Scott gets the gonour with Kingdom of Heaven and Gladiator... however his latest Robin Hood film left a bad taste in my mouth.

As for Fetih 1453 portraying Constantine XI in a bad way? I'm not sure I completely agree with that. As a muslim I sympathized alot with him during the film, and actually found him honourfull. It was some time ago when I saw the movie though, perhaps I have forgotten the details.

reply

That's because Fetih copied his ideas for this hollywood style crap.
