Hard to follow for someone with no historical background

I am mexican, and I don't have any turkish historical background, and I tought I could get some background with this movie, and after noticing about the high rating this movie had (an arithmetical 8.7!) I decided to give it a watch. I watched a little more than an hour, but it's getting really hard to follow. I blame in part, the messy traduction the movie had. But it's the first time that after more than an hour I have barely an idea of what's going on.

I agree. For example why they were pulling the ships over land is not explained very well. If you don't know anything about the siege beforehand, you are left in the dark.

Well, this movie was mainly made in Turkey, in Turkish, for Turks. And they are all familiar with the history. So, this movie makes sense for it's intended audience. Maybe you ought to read up on the fall of the Byzantine Empire, then watch this movie.
