This film is a prime example of no matter what sort of great cast you have, a decent director and director of photography, etc., cannot save a film from a poor screenplay. I felt like I knew very little of these characters or that there was much of a story here which is a shame because I like all these actors. Thornton screwed up on this one. Maybe next time....

Did you listen to the dialogue? The movie is inwardly brilliant. Quiet and reserved like most of the Actors. Just got finished watching Osage County. That was a play, with a good screenplay, and was boring as all get out. If it wasn't for the opportunity for the actor to emote "their" dialogue all over the place at every chance I would have fell asleep. I doubt they would be calling it a great piece of work otherwise. Screaming, shouting and fighting does not a screenplay make.
shareI've not seen Osage County so I cannot comment on that. I was sort of bored with this film. I have no problem with quiet, meandering screenplays but this film just didn't do it for me. I do like drama and there was some wit there, I did catch that of course and other points the film made. I just couldn't get into this film. I thought the film had a lot of talent but the film just didn't go anywhere with the characters.

Yes, I sort of agree. I think some film makers make a 4 hour film with all the nuts and bots, so the finished, cut down version, looses all the nuances. They can't all be Christopher Nolan.
shareI can't agree with you on that one. I thought everything about this film was brilliant. Loved the story, dialogue, casting, acting. I will keep a lookout for BBT-directed films fom now on. Loved Slng Blade too.

Oh I love Sling Blade. It's one of my favorite films. Perhaps I'll watch this particular film another time and get more out of it.
