John Hurt

When I first read about this movie, I thought, Robert Duval-great, Billy Bob Thornton-great, John Hurt .......John Hurt? He is a favorite, as are the other two actors, and seeing that this was a Billy Bob product, I knew from the start that this would actually have very little about Jayne Mansfield's car. But I couldn't imagine what was up with John Hurt.

I saw the movie, and it's just Billy Bob through and through. He can depict the south, the real south, like nobody else. Some of his movies give no hint of his Arkansas life, but this one certainly does, as did Slingblade. I think that this is a wonderful movie, and all the major actors did a marvelous job. The story seems strange to some, but this is the south the way it really was in 1969. These oddball people did and do exist in the south all over, and all of us who live here know people just like these.

John Hurt is amazing. Like Harvey Keitel. They just go on and on being wonderful.

I can't agree more. An excellent job acting from all involved, and what a great cast it was. It may not have had a speedy plot but it was a winderful character study.

I agree 100% .. I am southern born and raised .. and this movie does a great job in depicting southern people .. I am so glad it wasn't like the accents that were used in the movie " Steel Magnolia " .. I can't even watch that movie anymore , because of the way they talk .

"A man that wouldn't cheat for a poke don't want one bad enough".
