Wow, Sugar Ray must be rolling over in his grave

To have someone as ugly as Usher playing him, is the ultimate insult. What happened? They couldn't find Mr. Morgan from Seinfeld? Did he oversleep on casting day? Is the casting director blind? Look at this!!

You got a beady eyed wide nose raptor looking mutant and then Sugar Ray, before he died hearing this horrible casting news. Twas the decision that killed him. R.I.P.

reply

Sugar Ray is still alive, and surprisingly Usher looks like Ray, moves like Ray and is pretty good in this movie. He doesn't have a lot to say, but he's good.

reply

I met SRL right after they finished filming this. He said he thought Usher did a really good job imitating him. SRL was 60 at the time but looked 25...was amazing.

~I see a little silhouette of a man, Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango.

reply

I know you think all black people look alike but Sugar Ray is not Ali.....

reply

I don't get this post... are you trying to say that's Muhammad Ali with Usher in the picture? I see no mention of Ali outside of your post.

reply

The Boxing legend that died. I'm sure that was the confusion..

reply

Oh, that's not how I interpreted what he was saying. I though he was just kidding around suggesting that the casting of Usher killed Sugar Ray Leonard. I guess he might have being thinking of Ali, but I don't think that's what he was trying to say.

reply

Sugar Ray thinks he did a good job actually lol I am not convinced tho

There's also a reality that people tend to be biased one way or another about a performance depending on how they feel about being portrayed in general. If a historical icon feels good about the idea of being portrayed in media, they're likely to have a positive opinion of the portrayal as long as the material is fair to history. If they don't like the idea of being portrayed, they're likely to knock the portrayal no matter how good it is.

reply

And it most cases, the icon feels one way if they are paid for using their representation, or another if it's an unauthorized or an unflattering portrayal. So what they say is usually completely irrelevant and biased.

Sugar Ray is alive and quite well, you ignoramus

The poster is referring to Sugar Ray Lewis, not Leonard

No. He thought that Sugar Ray Leonard was dead. And now we are all laughing at him.

Ray Lewis is a football player who as far as I know has never been referred to as "Sugar Ray". The original Sugar Ray was Robinson who's indeed long dead and gone and might be who the thread starter was referring. He was also, pound for pound the greatest fighter of all time.

That was a joke.

Insulting the natural looks he was born with? Post your pictures so we can see if you're the standards of beauty.

reply

The Mr. Morgan reference was funny...everything else was probably a troll-job.

reply

He may not look like him much but it was the way he portrayed him that got usher the role. And as far as I'm concerned, usher is one of the most decent celebrities out there. And I'm not even a fan of usher, but I thought he did well
