the true story about the "No Mas Fight"

The truth is that Duran had that fight won and he knew it. The sad part was that the "fix" was already in. The Mafia had decided that since all the money was on Duran, they had to fix the fight so that Duran lost and the Mafia would clean up. The problem? Duran had the fight in the bag. He accidentally knocked down Sugar Ray early in the fight. Those that knew the fight was fixed, gasped when Sugar Ray was knocked down. But Duran had the fight in the bag and could have ended it any time he wanted to. That angered Duran's ego, the fact that he HAD to lose to a "lesser man". Duran's ego wouldn't allow him to "be knocked out". Duran came back for a final fight only for the money. His ego wasn't in the ring any more and he really didn't care about the outcome, only the amount of money for retirement.
(Ray Arcel's problems with the Mafia was probably that catalyst for the "No Mas" fight being fixed. It was probably a payback to clean his record with the Mafia)

There's no proof of this.

- But I do believe it's completely plausible. In fact, I'd say it's extremely likely, given the history of this sport.

Wlad also threw the fight with Tyson Fury, but I digress ...

I agree. OP wants to beleive the excuses for Duran losing 2nd fight. Mob had little influence in Vegas by 1980.
