The Red-headed stepchild of Discovery

Why did Discovery brush aside season 2 so quietly? I didn't even know it was coming back until I accidentally discovered it the day after Thanksgiving.
Not a single commercial was ever run about its return, nor since. Sure, Gold Rush got dozens of spots, but nary a mention of Flying Wild on right after it.
I think the show doesn't generate enough conflict and as such Discovery thinks its not worth showing off. I actually appreciate the lack of shouting and hair pulling and fighting; it's a welcome change to just have the reality of flying and everything that goes along with it in a more desolate environment.
