My Thoughts. Is Venus project legit?
I just saw this film for the first time without any knowledge of the previous Zeitgeist movies or the Venus Project, and was intrigued to say the least. I enjoyed the first part very much. But, I got a very utopistic feel that turned me off initially. The Discussion on human nature was very interesting, and is really what kept me interested enough to want to watch the entire film. I am glad that I did.
I have always been curious as to how we can continue living in, and seemingly off of, debt, so I was curious what exactly they would propose for our economy. In some ways I agree with what they came up with. I think that recording and evaluating all of the resources of the world is instrumental in learning to be more efficient. I agree that our current model of consumerism can only lead to destruction. I just do not see how we can continue consuming and wasting at this rate without consequence. But the whole Venus Project seemed like either a pipe dream at best or a scam at worst. Admittedly, I've only looked into the venus project at a glance, but unfortunately I'm leaning towards a scam. It seems odd that a project aimed at uninstalling the monetary system, would sell dvds at $10 a pop or books at $25.
I will try to watch the rest of the zeitgeist films, and try to look into the Venus project a little bit more later because this documentary did raise some great points and just might be credible.
Anyways, I would like some input from anyone out there as to the credibility of that Jacque Fresco guy. Not sure if he is an incredibly ambitious idealist, a delusional old man, or a very smart con artist.
