crazy fireman turnaround

can anyone explain why the fireman all of a sudden turned into a bloodthirsty killer?

reply

he was a prisoner with tats, duh.

reply

I just posted a big long thing about it a few posts down... He was a prisoner so didn't want them to turn him in but it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Either.

reply

Of you want to read it is under the post "are there any twists and how does it end" I'm on my phone and can't copy and paste easily.

reply

Definitely made no sense.

The girl saw the fireman's tattoos indicating he was not a fireman but one of the escaped prisoners. So what, he didn't need to kill her, there were no police around and the prison fell down!

Killing her didn't make sense to me. He could have just said OK you go that way and I'll go this way or Yes, I'm a killer but right now I'm a survivor and we have to work together.

Killing her was just so they could have a final act and a villain...so stupid. There really was point.

This.

He is a freaking prisoner apparently from a prison with murderers and rapists. So the guy couldn't help him self he is a mutant. The whole fire truck scene was odd. The guy just not help being a killer.

reply

Please. Even killers are capable of controlling themselves. If not, how do you explain them making it through their whole lives as a normal human being up to the point they killed someone?
Even Hannibal Lector could have controlled himself.

THose prisoners looked and acted like they were mental cases.

This is all wrong and would take too much typing on my phone to correct. I'd recommend looking up some info on a psychopaths psyche before assuming anything about them

"Most people on the boards are casting experts. It's why they all work in Hollywood right?"

reply

I cannot fathom what you could possibly say that would make me believe that psychopaths aren't capable of controlling themselves most of the time.

False: all conservatives are stupid people;
True: most stupid people are conservative

reply

No point if you have your mind already made up. And I am not gonna explain something anyway that a quick Google search can point out to you (and I am including some, not all). But I get the feeling you're an "I'm right regardless" person, so we'll just drop it haha.

reply

Yeah, you're ignorantly wrong, humans that kill can completely control themselves, you sound religious.

reply

Who knows?! Let's make a guess - because he was already a bloodthirsty killer? I knew something was wrong with that *beep* from the jump though. He was probably in prison for being a bloodthirsty killer. We were never told why he was in prison but we know he was an escaped prisoner.

reply

Despite being an escaped prisoner, it doesn't make much sense that he was so nice and helpful at first, and then simply became an axe murderer because the chick saw his tattoos.

reply

I agree that it didn't make sense because we know he wasn't just some blood thirsty killer without a conscience since the only reason she ever found out about him, was after he took his coat off for her to use as a cushion for her back. But as soon as she sees the tats, he just goes full retard.

reply

Agreed, there's a million things he could have said or done like..."what's more important then all of us getting out of here?". He just turned out of nowhere.

reply

One thing to notice 8s the other fireman, he tried to warn them, small context most wouldn't notice.

Also, it was stupid for them to write him killing her, he could have at least tried to keep her for sex later or get a quick one, I guess they didn't wanna over do the rape.

reply

EXACTLY! That's the incredibly stupid part that all those saying "he's a escaped prisoner duh, he can't control his psychopathic tendencies" keep ignoring.

reply

This is what the whole preceding scene where Pollo got shot for being suspected of being a criminal illustrated for you. That is why he abruptly turned when he was outed. He didn't turn on them because he was a psychopath, he turned on them to survive. Also, it's supposed to function as a twist.

reply

Whoa! Thanks, bloodymaryhorror! Seriously, I was super annoyed with the random "yo, I'm a bad guy and I'm gonna kill you now" twist. I honestly had not even considered the possibility that he killed them as a preemptive move to save himself. He saw that people were willing to kill anyone they thought could be an escaped prisoner. And since these girls had seen what escaped prisoners were doing, there's no way they would trust him after discovering his secret.

However, this sudden flip of the "fireman" at the end is still my biggest complaint about the movie. I called it from the get-go that he was really an escaped prisoner. He wasn't at all upset about the guy driving the firetruck (his so-called "partner") dying in front of his eyes. And then the driver tried to stop Pollo from helping the guy out of the firetruck. I was like, "Yep, he's an escapee. That driver is trying to keep the inmate from getting away." But then he was really helpful the whole time, even staying with the group when they were a hindrance and slowing him down. He could've taken off on his own at any point. So it got me thinking, yes he's an escaped prisoner, but that doesn't mean he's a psychopathic maniac who's about to go on a killing spree. He could've been incarcerated for a crime of passion, maybe murdered his wife's lover when he caught them together. But no, the moment his true identity was revealed, he had to turn on a dime and be a murderous lunatic. I really thought he was just going to say, "Yeah, I'm an escaped prisoner, but I'm not going to hurt you." I was really disappointed that the character ended up being a stereotypical psycho. Even if he felt like he couldn't trust the girls once they knew, he didn't have to kill them. He could've just parted ways with them. They wouldn't be a real threat to him since one of them was badly injured and the other would be preoccupied with helping her sister. It was an unnecessary twist to give them a reason to kill him off, because apparently everybody had to die.

reply

My take on it was that he was just a true psychopath all long and was planning it the whole time. But obviously looking for the right time. All the men were dead who could fight back, pollo, the priest, etc. Now that the girl was injured, alone, and vulnerable it was the perfect time. He took his chance and then waited for the sister to come down for her to be next. Earthquake or not he was a psycho and took the earthquake as opportunity, potentially a last chance to kill since he would have either die in prison or a tsunami.
