Were Micah and Dennis two of the most LOYAL souls you will ever meet?

SPOILER ALERT!!

For them to stick around after witnessing all of what was going on? At least with PA2, Dan was not a believer until the very end, and was also more invested in the relationship since he was married and had a child. But these other two men were just live-in boyfriends!

Especially in Micah's case. The psychic specifically states that the demon's intent is to haunt and torment Katie no matter where she goes. I mean, talk about bringing baggage into a relationship. Yet, Micah doesn't once attempt to rid himself of the situation. Not even a "hey, I'm going to stay at my brother's place for a week or so until things calm down". It's one thing if he entered the relationship knowing all about the hauntings, but she kept that secret from him until they moved in together. One would think that after the footprint and biting incident, that would have been his last straw. But no, let me sleep it off since my tormented/possessed girlfriend tells me she wants to all of a sudden stay again.

With Dennis, at least he could have still mistaken the whole chain of events as the house just being haunted (which still doesn't excuse him for staying there for so long before finally evacuating). But still, after watching all that footage, that daughter would creep the living daylights out of me, and maybe, I might have been looking for new living arrangements after all that. It's one thing to enter into a relationship with a woman with kids, it's another thing to enter and stay in a relationship with a woman with kids who clearly communicate with paranormal forces that hide under sheets and claw your friends.

reply

Micah definitely wasn't super-boyfriend. He never really considered that Katie was in harm's way in the house. He kept saying how it was great footage and he didn't ditch the camera when she asked/told him. He got the Ouija board, against her wishes, even after the psychic told him making contact would make it worse. He won't trust people who make the supernatural their job, calling the psychic a fruit loop and saying the demonologist was a jesus freak.

He twice blamed Katie for bringing it into the house. First saying 'why didn't you tell me much earlier in the relationship' then later directly blaming her for everything.

reply

To be fair, I didn't say anything about "super boyfriend", I just said he was loyal for not fleeing after realizing that his girlfriend was cursed, and not him. Sure he didn't consider them in harm's way initially, but come on, powdered footprints and bite marks?

reply

all of the incidents are new to him. his only research was a book and a website. yet he belittled anything the psychic said. when he was warned not to make contact with the demon, his reply was to ask how to make the activity increase.

reply

Being a guy, I think there were two BIG reasons Micah stayed with Katie.

reply

HA!

reply

Micah saw it all a joke at first. He didn't get scared easily until the last two nights.

Dennis was a really good guy, takin on a woman's baggage and loving her daughters like his own, them one of them turns out to be the creepy kid of the century.

I agree with both the OP & MydnightRose. Both men were loyal beyond belief, just in slightly differing ways.
Micah, for all his loyalty, was quite a moron. He discounted everything he didn't want to believe. I myself was surprised that Katie didn't just call the demonologist anyway!! By the time she did, it was too late.

Dennis was the REAL nice guy. I truly liked him. He loved the girls and his wife, and fought to the end. While I jumped when Micah died, I literally cringed up my body when poor Dennis bit it like that!!
He was a 'true' innocent, he never taunted the demon or made it worse by what he did. He just tried to be a good guy.

Completely agree with the OP, I was comparing these two characters throughout the movie.

All 3 male protagonists are a little like tragic bystanders who are recent additions to the cursed family. Micah was different in that he knew about the ghosts/demons and Katie's past from the beginning of the movie. The guy in the 2nd movie, like Julie in the 3rd movie, tried to be rational and cool so we saw some character development, but he is also more stuck in the situation with a child and a wife (plus another child to worry about). For Dennis, for all he knew it was a haunted house. He was also the true good guy, and the last 15 mins is truly filled with dread and doom for him, in a foreign setting where at least 4 of this cursed family can no longer be trusted in a strong setting for the demons.

All 3 men were depicted to be somewhat tools to various degrees. They also serve as the reason to bring video footage into the story. But they all had a good heart, with Dennis especially being the nice guy and the innocent.

how nice of guy could Dennis be taking the demonic possession and transferring it to his wifes little sister...NOT a nice guy!!!

That wasn't Dennis. Dennis was Katie & Kristie's stepfather from Part 3.
It was Kristi's husband that did that ritual.

They were both incredibly loyal but it was in very different ways.

Micah stayed with her and, yes was loyal, but he was an idiot and really annoying. He ignored everyone's advice, even from those who actually knew what they were talking about, and until the last two nights he treated the whole thing like a massive joke. He'd laugh at it, he'd refuse to stop filming no matter how distressed Katie was and he used a bloody Ouija board! He had been specifically told not to make contact with it or it would make it worse so what does he do? Gets a Ouija board out and starts communicating with it. Even if you hadn't been told not to, surely common sense would kick in and make you think 'hmm maybe I shouldn't try to talk to the crazy entity living here'.

Dennis was genuinely a nice guy and actually seemed to be intelligent and helpful when he needed to be. He was there for her and the kids and he did the best he could.

'You people. If there isn't a movie about it, it's not worth knowing, is it?'

I thought Micah was a dbag and not so much loyal as he was challenging this thing to prove how manly he was.

I actually felt that Micah was responsible for making things worse in the first movie, before the sequels expanded on what was actually happening.
