Anyone heard of Bloody Mary game b4 this movie? Anyone try it alone?

The variation I heard was that you are supposed to be in a dark room, at night, ALONE. Then you close your eyes and spin around (similar to running around a baseball bat) while saying "Bloody Mary" three times.

When you stop spinning and open your eyes, you're supposed to see "Bloody Mary." (I can't recall if looking into a mirror was part of it.)

At first I thought "Bloody Mary" referred to the 16th century Queen of England, who got her nickname from the hundreds of executions of Protestants that she ordered. But now I think it means a ghost named "Bloody Mary."

1. Anyone hear of other versions?

2. Has anyone had the nerve to try it alone? I would only perhaps consider it if I'm among a bunch of friends and we were all going to try it, or if family were watching TV in the next room ... but completely by myself in a dark house (or apartment, condo, whatever) -- no way. I wouldn't do it in the same way I wouldn't go down to the cellar after watching a scary movie late at night.

I don't know much about the history but the way I heard you're supposed to do it is in the bathroom with the lights off and say "1 Bloody Mary, 2 Bloody Mary, 3 BM......." all the way to 10 BM. I don't know how long you're supposed to wait or how many people you can do it with because I would be too scared to try. It would be a good dare if you're with lots of people and send someone to do it.

We used to do it at slumber parties in the early 80's. You had to be alone and be staring into the mirror.

"Oh bugger, that's gone wrong." RH

Did this as a kid many times. The version I did was just like the one in the movie: saying three times bloody mary, in front o f a mirror, in the dark. Don't remember if I ever did it alone, but definitely with friends.

I heard you're in the dark with however many people, but- you have candles so you can see her in the mirror( saying her name 3 times). As I got older I heard of THE"Bloody Mary" of England- But I knew it wasn't supposed to be her. My Mom played a different version as a child ( I'm 38 she's 58)She played " I believe in Mary Worth" I looked that up and found this-Variations of the game are:

Calling out "I stole your baby Bloody Mary" into the mirror.

Calling out "I killed your baby Mary Worth" into the mirror.

Calling out "I believe in Mary Worth" into the mirror. Mary Worth is from seventeenth century Salem manuscripts detailing the punishment and execution of the sixteen year old Puritan girl, Mary Worth — now popularly known as Bloody Mary

We used to do it in the mid 1970's. I was 5 or 6

I think I did it as a kid in the 90s with some friends.

"M is fearless, she's the original honey badger, she doesn't give a sh!t! - Nekojita"

My friends and I had a different version:

1.) You spin around three times while saying Bloody Mary.
2.) Splash/flick water onto the mirror when you are done.
3.) Mary was supposed to appear in the mirror.

Always did it with friends in the dark. Nothing ever happened. Would never try it alone in the dark, even though I know logically nothing would happen. (Just in case...)

haha yeah I did it when I was like around 10-12. I went in the bathroom, spun around 3 times in the dark and then opened my eyes...nothing happened. But to be completely honest, I've never been truly scared by a movie until I started the PA obsession. I think its scary bc this type of stuff really does exist (demons, possesion etc)

Yep, I tried it as kids back in the late 80's. Nothing happened.

I heard about it as a kid but never had the nerve to try it; I am an adult and still won't try it. The story I heard was that Mary had been horrible scarred when alive and if you call her she will emerge out of the mirror and scratch your face up.
Candyman did more of a number on me than Bloody Mary.

Yes I did the Candy man one after watching the movie at a sleep over when I was 14... nothing happened but the mirror was my friends mirrored wardrobe drawers that I had to sleep in front of all night... needless to say I didn't get much sleep...
