What was that ending? *spoiler*

When he was in the field and she was in the wheelchair... was that before he went to see dirty cop turned saint? Was that after and he actually survived the attack from the school kids? Or was that like heaven or purgatory or something? It looked like he had a wound on his face/chin from the gun shot by the school kid. But that's a little too much escaping death even for a crazy movie like this. And her having survived getting shot in the ambulance is also serious nuts. Very interesting though.

Then it's really quite odd for him to have wounds and for her to be in a wheel chair.

Which makes it even more odd that he would have fresh wounds. For something meaningless, it is demonstrably present and deliberate. Even in having him wheal her off, the part that "doesn't matter", is delivered on the forefront of the "symbol". She has been waiting for him in a wheal chair since the time she died. Or, even more odd, in a place where time is meaningless, she greats him in a wheal chair as a result of wounds that occurred years ago in his mortal time. It's either meaningful or sloppy direction. It's odd.

Essentially those are the scenarios I was thinking about. The first, which seems like the most likely scenario, as I said earlier, is odd. Not bad. But odd and interesting.

The second is less interesting. It could be that time in that place is meaningless and whatever condition you are in when you pass is how you appear there for whatever reason. And then they move on together. Or an infinitely many other possibilities. Not to interested in that.

The third, also very possible (not at all realistic obviously) given how he and she kept surviving things that they should have survived. And this was just one more series of events that they survived but shouldn't have. Of course that would mean she is in a wheel chair because she was paralyzed. Which is possible but never suggested via a particular wound that would paralyze.

It's a movie that sticks with you a bit after you watch it. But this scene had me wondering more than I should have.

The director could also have put it just to puzzle viewers. You never know with these movie guys, they're sometimes mischievous.

Some very interesting ideas here and your right the film and especially the ending stick with you for a while after watching this... I thought the movie had maybe gone all Gladiator on us at the end and that he was meeting up with his love in heaven... But as a previous poster has pointed out he has all the wounds/scars from the children's attack, and she is in a wheel chair.. seems a little odd she will spend all eternity in a wheelchair? maybe he survived, I will have to watch it again sometime.

I thought a good ending would of been him killing the dirty cop and saying this feud ends with us.. and then the young boy who would be the dirty cops son vows revenge in the future. creating a vicious circle of revenge and violence that goes on and on.. then we could have cut away to the lovers being together thinking its all over... but when in reality the young boy is planning his revenge for many years in the future

the scar on his neck is from the field scene where he got shot by the police officer (with the black star tattoo)

stuffhotstuff, that's what I thought the ending should have been too. As it is I can only think that the girl survived because she was only shot in the legs, hence the wheelchair, and the guy survived because somehow the boy missed any major organs and he miraculously lived, as stupid as that is.

I think that that either represented what could have been had he not seeked out revenge or that was like a representation of heaven

I don't think that whatever happened in the final scene actually happened in the movie prior if that makes sense, yeah just a what coulda been or a representation of him in heaven saying they both are in peace now

I must say I got worried when he sat down with the priest for some coffee that it would end with him forgiving him, that woulda definitly ruined the overall impression of it, his arrogant self-righteous ass deserved to die regardless if he changed his life for the better or not

You gave yourself a name. I gave mine up.
