Disappointing

I was stoked to see this film and really, really tried to like it. It had some poignant moments, but was a shoddy attempt at telling a wonderful story. I feel the director spent too much time trying to make it look like 'The Damned United', that he didn't focus on the characters or the story.

As much as I hate to admit, 'We Are Marshall' pulled off this topic much better. It set up rich characters and how the that team was loved by the community. Then tragedy befell them, and it showed HOW they rebuilt and overcame.

United let's you assume that MAN U was loved and assumes the viewer knew the characters. It glosses over the whole rebuilding process.

The lack of ANY game footage or action was the most disappointing part of the film, and a easy cop out for the director. Showing the squad in the locker room and then the final score was just lazy film making.

In the end, the whole film was about a bunch of guys walking back and forth mumbling.

'The Damned United' was superior in every way.

The Damned United was a feature film for cinema release whilst this was made for TV. They had different budgets.

I watched this on netflix so i had no idea that it had a small tv budget, it explains some things though. I too was confused and a bit bummed about the cut aways when it came to game time. I liked the film overall though.
