cannabilsm?

Or bleak survival conditions?

To me, the answer is more than simple. They were starving to death and their only hope was to eat the only thing available to sustain their lives.
It's disheartening to know that some papers and a lot of the public hurled shame on the survivors for having to do what they had to do. I don't know what part of human nature allows some to judge others so harshly even under such horrifying conditions. But, there'll always be the self righteous who will think they could have somehow survived something like this without having to make such decisions.
Of course it's also nice to know that the "other half" praised them for having such strong will to endure and survive.
I'm in camp #2.
I can not even imagine how tough it would have been for these guys. The word hero gets thrown around pretty easily, but i think there were definitely heros in this story.
It's a very inspiring tale and it was cool to see how some of these guys went on to live such adventerous lives.
I really thought i'd come to these boards and see post after post about cannabalism but to my surprise, i'm the first.
This is one of those things that really get you to think and wonder what you've got inside you, and how you would have fared.
With a still-missing plane from Malaysia happening right now, i wonder what those people went through, and maybe if there are any people still alive and struggling.
Give ya the shivers up your spine.
