When Nate's apartment was burglarlized

Who else thinks that James,Nate's boyfriend, arranged the burglary? Remember when James was texting and making calls during the dinner Margaret gave for them? He soon insisted they go to a club where his old boyfriend was a DJ. At some point Nate said he had lost his keys and James said "Oh, they'll turn up". James did his best to keep Nate there as long as he could.

I think the only reason that Margaret was blamed was due to bad timing. She just happened to go in and clean his apartment that same evening. James probably took Nate's keys and handed them off to a friend to go and steal Nate's stuff.

I think James spotted Nate as an easy mark right off the bat.

Im slow when it comes to thinking about that kind of stuff in movies but now that you bring that up it makes total sense. This was a great movie.

I disagree with this entirely. Nate left his keys at Margaret's place. Remember when she saw them on the bookcase/table thing. Even if James knew this there was no way for anyone who knew James to get ahold of Nate's keys without breaking into Margaret's place. I think that scene with James saying "Oh, they'll turn up" was just to hammer home how self-centered and uncaring James really was.

This would also explain why they were so specific in showing the back door to Nate's apartment open after Margaret was finished cleaning.

OP, I disagree. I think you're totally off.

The plotline was to display a pure accident/misunderstanding causing Nate to lose it against Margaret, ‘cause he had already dealt with his first bad breakup before it.

That’s all. James was a bad guy, but running out on Margaret was his only ploy against her (and Nate). And then later, when he was "showing off" Nate to his ex.

There were no legitimate clues to show how and especially WHY James would set up a crime spree.

jname96 and tennisplaya45,

Just watched the movie again and I was way off. Margaret picked up the keys along with the wine and went over to Nate's apartment. She put the keys on the table as soon as she entered.

Both of your posts made me rethink my take on the film. I read too much in to James' behavior. He was just a completely self absorbed jerk. The was no reason to think he would set Nate up.

Thanks.
