Can this movie work with the 2003 FMA timeline?

I'm one those people who prefer the original FMA anime from 2003. Nothing against Brotherhood though, which I thought was a fantastic adaptation as well.

I've heard that "The Sacred Star of Milos" isn't tied down to much continuity from FMAB, so I was wondering... could it fit in with the 2003 anime timeline? And if so, between which episodes would it work?

Thank you!

i think the whole film is set around the same time as the very start of "Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa" remember at some point between ep11 and 22 i think 3 years have passed and we only see a small part of there story and they have become the world famous Elric brothers.

To my understanding Brotherhood was the closest to the true manga, whereas they did whatever they want with the original FMA.

I saw FMA first then brotherhood, I loved FMA to death, it took me a while to get used to Brotherhood (especially since there is more comedy in it). Now when I want to watch the series, I go straight to Brotherhood, I don't resort to the original FMA.

This is a standalone film, of what I remember of the original FMA, it would fit to the original series. However, I could be wrong.

I've seen both animes and read the manga. To answer your question, technically, no it can't, since the movie takes place after Al remembers seeing the gate and is able to transmute without a circle. That never happens in the 2003 anime, so it wouldn't make sense. It also references the proper (Brotherhood/manga version) of the Gate, as well as the other counties in the FMA world besides Amestris, which are never mentioned in the first anime.

But the movie is a stand-alone one, and while it's meant to fit into the Brotherhood/manga timeline, it doesn't really reference it much.

I'm pretty sure we figured out when the movie took place closer to the release, but I don't remember well. I can give you an estimate though. In the manga, Ed gets different outfits for each arc. He's wearing his outfit from the arc where he visits Izumi, and since Al can transmute without a circle it takes place soon after that part in the story. Since there was a lot of stuff going on with Wrath in the 2003 anime, there wouldn't really be time for the movie to happen in that continuity.

Just realized that your question was from a few years ago, but if you see this, I hope it helped!
