PG-13? forget that, this anime is aimed at older audiences, so if u made a live action movie, make it for adults, or at least older teens...and Emma Watson director?! u mean Hermione Granger Emma Watson? wat has she ever directed? give it to Takashi Miike, and make it in Japanese with English subs, with Japanese actors and actresses...now its worth considering...

I didn't say there wouldn't be an unrated version that restores all the gore (including Mami's death early on; in the PG-13 version, we'd have a Gory Discretion Shot where we see the area below Mami seconds before her headless body falls to the ground). Also, you're forgetting that there are other movies Directed By Cast Member. Take Tombstone, for instance. An actual director (the late George P. Cosmatos) is credited, but in reality, actor Kurt Russell directed much of the film himself in his only effort at directing--and he did a pretty damme good job at it, thank you very much!

Neither was Kurt Russell when he directed Tombstone. But I enjoyed it thoroughly nonetheless.
And what do you think of the Gory Discretion Shot I suggested for Mami's death scene? (Here's the gist of the aversion of gore: we see the camera move in on Mami's head as she screams in terror, then we see her body except her head as we hear a sickening noise. We cut to Madoka and Sayaka's reactions, then Charlotte gripping the headless body on opposite sides. Afterward, all we see of the scene before Homura shows up to hand Charlotte her ass on a silver platter are Madoka and Sayaka's reactions to the further carnage.) I suggested this way to avoid the gore to make sure it gets a PG-13 rating without straying too far from Mr. Urobuchi's vision. (On a side note, the full carnage will be seen clearly in the unrated version, and the movies based on Kazumi Magica and Oriko Magica--casts to be posted in this thread when I feel like it--will indeed be rated R, as those two manga are obviously more violent than Madoka Magica was--and I mean BY A LONG SHOT.)
Also, I'm suggesting other minor changes, such as Kyoko and Sayaka's bodies being seen briefly by Madoka and Homura following Kyoko's sacrifice shortly before both corpses fade away and leave nothing behind (kinda like when Obi-Wan was killed by Vader in Star Wars IV and when Yoda died of old age in Star Wars VI). Then the scene where Sayaka's body is discovered will be replaced by a scene where Madoka tearfully breaks the news to her classmates that Sayaka is dead and that even though her body hasn't been found she saw her die personally. At the token funeral in the next scene, Homura and Madoka talk amongst themselves about what had happened and Homura convinces Madoka to find out the history of magical girls from Kyubey himself before she makes any final decisions on whether or not to become a magical girl.
Oh, and Patrick Doyle's score could be a synthesized blend of original music and music adapted from Ennio Morricone's scores (including "The Ecstasy of Gold" from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly).

wow, u really put a lot of thought into this whole thing! haha thats passionate, i respect that! i saw this a few months ago and have seen heaps of other animes since then, so its not fresh in my mind, but your vision seems do-able to me! i like the sound of the Kazumi and Oriko Magica mangas...il have to look into them...cheers

I would like to see Nolan adapting this one, I think with his filmaking and storytelling style; this could work.
