My theory on the Madoka and the anime genre in general

I picked this show at random from a list of available anime shows on netflix. I watched it through and enjoyed it. I'm not an anime fan, but once in awhile I pick something. The last think I watched was a show called Mushi-shi.
Here is my theory on Japanese anime.
It's a lot like a dream. It's very engaging and interesting and makes total sense when you are watching the show. Yeah, it makes total sense only when you are actually watching the show. If you try to explain the show to someone who hasn't watched it, especially someone who doesn't watch anime, it just sounds completely silly and illogical.

So I totally got into this show, enjoyed it, and it made total sense. I wanted to share it with my wife. I am like "Yeah, it's about these girls who make wishes on this pokemon-like alien and they get magic powers to fight witches, which are really these surreal abstract emotional labyrinths which....." I lost her about there.
