The bumbling idiot won the game?

I'm now watching the episode covering the midwest. He had two people each from a Brooklyn, a young guy from NY and an older lady from Iowa. The lady answered most of the questions and even answered one the guy missed (What snack food invented in the midwest is rumored to last forever; the guy said eskimo pie!) The host actually awarded the game to the guy. I think he got one right, what is the population of Brooklyn NY. That was so unfair. I wonder if it had to do with her being older. In this youth worshiping culture, maybe the producers want to keep them happy even though it was clear this lady's education was superior to this guys.
