Weighted Average BS?

Uh, I think the weighted average is a little fckucking wonky here? Check the user votes and see for yourself...No bloody way this film is a 3.9 on 10.

(26 out of 47 votes are 10. Yeah, that's not suspicious at all...)

All films with few ratings get low scores like 3.9 or 4.8 like it currently has. That's a good thing, at least in the feature film category. As more people see the film and rate it, the average will become closer to what the film actually is. Maybe it really is the best film ever made, worth all those 10s. But based on the trailer, I'm thinking something in the 6 range.

^ this. a 10 is a score reserved for a perfect movie... yet people flippantly throw that score around every time a favorite actor of theirs comes out with a new movie, or if the movie contains their favorite superhero etc etc... regardless of its TRUE objective merit as a film. this may be a good film, i can't say because i haven't seen it, but i highly doubt that it is objectively a 10. and for 26 out of 47 people to vote 10 on it, well frankly that just sounds like you've either a.) got people involved with the film voting on it or b.) you've got a fan club of one of the cast members going to town on this thing. once more people actually SEE the film and begin rating it, its score will come up to a more realistic number. but right now it'd be an absolute joke to rate a film that virtually no one has seen or heard of yet as a 10 or close to a 10.

Any voting system is essentially useless to me, because I never base my decisions about what movies to watch on anyone else's opinions (which is what a voting system is).

The weighted average used here is particularly useless, since they don't reveal how it's calculated. I know they have their reasons for that, but it means that nobody outside IMDb can make any rational judgement on its worth.

I gave this a 10, you know why? Because of the jerks out there that abuse the system by giving it a 1 when it clearly is better than that. One reviewer in question has given films that have rated quite good a 1 because he is simple just that, a JERK. Reviewers such as Mitch_Rockwell, Shankru_Spam_Begone, Sir Cellophane_Beak and Bollywood_Laxitive (who i suspect has many of the review names starting with Bollywood) really need to get a life. Hating a film for no other reason than just hate is symptomatic of a spoilt, ignorant brat.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Stop trying to balance the rating by voting in extremes. It only skews up the ratings more.

But then some will see your 10 and vote 1 to balance it out, and then other reviewers will see those 1's and vote to balance them out, and then ....

If you want to maintain the integrity of the system, vote according to your conscience and nothing else.
