I really enjoyed this film but was there any need for it to be two and a half hours long. Could have been pretty much perfect if it had been half an hour shorter.

I don't know. It wasn't boring and didn't feel that long.

I agree. It could have used tighter editing. For instance, scenes where they are either singing or music is playing and no real dialog should have been cut. Would have made a nice tidier package. I got bored about an hour in and stopped watching.
