Confused to the ending with Legs

Can someone explain the ending? I didn't get the newspaper reference, so I really didn't understand where Legs was. Is she in Cuba? Is she dead? The last scene seemed to suggest that, but without understanding what's going on with the newspaper article, it's hard to follow.

Is this the ending in the book (cause then I can read that for, one would hope, a clearer explaination)
