Reminiscent of the '96 'Foxfire'?

Can anyone who has seen both films comment on whether or not this is an original story, or if it's just the aforementioned movie, repackaged? Judging from the synopsis and title, seems oddly similar.

Just curious, cheers.

Its not.

Won't spoil anything but its very different from the '96 one.

I haven't seen this one, but FYI- they were both adaptations of the Joyce Carol Oates novel, "Foxfire". So while they take place in different times, and are probably very different, the story itself will be pretty much identical.

I saw this movie and thought it was really good. I haven't read the novel, but from what I understand this film is quite faithful to it.

Unlike the 1996 "adaptation", this one is actually set in upstate New York in the 1950s, like the novel. The 1996 film seems almost like a parody to me when I try and watch it after seeing this one.

This new film does a wonderful job of capturing that atmosphere of a working-class community in 1950s America. There is sexism, racism, alcoholism, violence and the girls are actually vulnerable and subjected to hardships in a completely different way than the well to do emo kids in the 1996 version. This one is definitely much truer to Oates's story, and a much better story in itself.

Great performances by the girls too. And unlike Angelina and friends, they actually look like young teenagers, which also contributes to their impression of vulnerability and making this a good film.

Much, much, better than the 1996 version. It's a bit long could've been edited down 45 mins. or so, but still enjoyable. 7/10

Look at the night sky, where does it end?
