Why would anyone want Mel Gibson's name attached to any movie?

This is a man so toxic, they cut him out of a cameo in his own Mad Max franchise. You can find a producer anywhere. Why would you want his name attached to anything?

reply

You're an idiot. Must be nice to be perfect.

reply

He knows a quality production, and he's an excellent actor and director.

This!

I think he owned the rights to the thing -- so it's not like they had a lot of choice.

Gibson's name is so far in the background it's not as if much of anyone's going to notice unless they happen to know Icon Productions is owned in part by him -- there aren't many who do. It also looks as if not many are interested in this movie, even though it's got Michael Caine in it. He used to be a bigtime actor. He still works more than Gibson does!

You will probably disagree. That's the nature of discussions -- they have two sides.

reply

I agree about his name being a toxic instant turnoff since he's the last place most decent people want to invest their hard earned movie ticket money. I guess its good he made all his money while relatively sane because being a good actor/director isn't enough when there are so many other choices. I mean, foreign & domestic, has anyone ever seen every movie that came out in a year? Too many flix to choose from & We can live without mad max easier than he can give up being in love with his own spotlight. If he showed signs of getting some help or healing his toxicity I would fully support him again. But as it stands, I vote elsewhere with my dollars. He has nothing to prove to anyone other than himself unless he's asking for our time & money... Then the choice becomes our moral responsibility. Best wishes everyone

Tell me something: Are Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz "toxic" also, since they referred to Israel as a "genocidal" country.

And are Sean Penn and Oliver Stone "toxic" for embracing -- literally -- Communist dictators like Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro?

Just wondering.

I LOVE your *beep* post!!! I so agree w/everything you have stated as well.

I would take 100 Mel Gibsons over the actors/directors/actress you have named :) KUDOS FILMKLASSIK

*** Hollywood NEVER gives people a chance when they make mistakes ONLY if they are IN crowd do they forgive them.

I love Mel Gibson; he's a fantastic actor, director, producer, etc. etc.
I think its time people forgive, its not like other actors/actresses have said or done any worse than Mel Gibson. I'm glad Mel has friends - true friends who stand by him - Whoopi, Jodie Foster, Robert Downey, Jr., just to name a few who have really come to his side and defended him to no end. As for his last crazy wife we don't actually KNOW the whole truth about what went on, the bitch was a young gold digging seeking fame bitch - I truly wish Mel would've NEVER met her. He has his problems but has owned up to them, can't say the same for those actors/actresses/director's you've named - It's disgusting how Hollywood has these cliques that are so damn liberal and think they are right about everything- they are such liberal radicals; If they hate our country USA so much then please leave, it would be so great if they did. Penn/Stone, glorifying beast like Castro and Hugo Chavez; who are truly evil. They have young movie stars wearing those Che Guevara t-shirts, jackets, etc, b/c they think he was so cool - he slaughtered so many innocent people yet they praise him. They have the audacity to persecute and/or ignore Mel Gibson, who has made some of the best movies - "Braveheart", "The Passion of Christ", all "Lethal Weapon" movie franchise, "We Were Soldiers", "The Patriot" and many more. One of his latest movie "Get the Gringo" was very good may I add! Mel Gibson is brilliant and has so many ideas of other movies but of course Hollywood has "blacklisted" him -- TIME TO GET OVER IT!! Hollywood is so fake; even a great actor like Andy Garcia b/c of his "political views" don't agree w/Hollywood's had to raise money for a small indie picture "City Island" which by the way was so great that I would rather watch his movie instead of all these "blockbusters". Andy Garcia is a wonderful talented actor who shouldn't be casted out b/c he knows the truth about Cuba - he was born there and still has some family members there; Garcia KNOWS so much about Castro, Chavez, Che but you really have to listen to him b/c he speaks the truth yet we have idiots still praising these dictators - WTF has this world come to? Sorry I went off topic about Andy Garcia, but he's kind of in the same boat as Mel when getting roles, although Garcia has been in more roles recently but I bet your sweet ass he has to raise money for any movie he makes. Both great actors/directors/producers who could give us more movies worth watching. Oliver Stone and his conspiracies - I'll pass; Sean Penn he's mouthy and always has a huge chip on his shoulder, glad Robin Wright finally left him for good, she probably got sick of his verbal abuse towards her, and I wouldn't put it pass this pussy of a man hitting Robin as well.

Finally, some god damned sanity prevails when it comes to Mel Gibson.

Toxic, my ass. Bloody legend is what Mel is.

On really romantic evenings of self, I go salsa dancing with my confusion

reply

Only the right wing can be toxic. Like Bill Cosby, a law an order guy. If he was a lefty, they would be saying he needs help instead of hanging.

reply

I'm pretty sure you actually disagree with the guy you replied to. You also contradict yourself on several occasions. Also, way to really put your money where your mouth is: you bet MY sweet ass? Never mind the implications that follow describing it as "sweet;" you leave my ass out of your ridiculous, run-on tirade.

I would say they are far worse, for having done this with deliberation and sobriety.

I believe Gibson is culturally anti-semitic, but I won't hold against him his drunken blathering. We all say stupid sh!t when we're drunk.

You just inadvertently gave Mel Gibson fans (of which I am one) a reason to pay attention to this film.

Apocalyptica was pretty damn decent.. Get the Gringo, another decent film.. The man can act and direct regardless, despite his personal opinions.. We can always agree to disagree though, can we not?

Sidenote : A lot of actors/actresses don't get the cameos they deserve.. Hell I swore they'd slip Sissy Spacek into Carrie somehow.. but nope. I didn't see anyone from any of the 90s TMNT movies in this new movie either..

reply

That's probably because they're wearing costumes.

reply

Leonardo, Raphael, Michaelangelo and Donatello are definitely in them, fyi.

reply

There, I fixed the Subject.

I can't stand self-righteous fools. I'm more than a 'decent person' and I support Mel Gibson completely. Jews ran the transatlantic slave trade, look it up. Now, they lead the Democratic party and keep black people locked in social programs, perpetuating the victim mentality - how convenient.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, not a racist and I have good taste in movies. I used to be a Democrat until April of 2008 when the Democratic rules committee screwed over Hillary Clinton for a guy who was a lowly state senator; if you don't know the difference between that and a Senator at the Federal level you're already not smart enough to be voting. Mel Gibson isn't perfect and either are you; he's a talented actor/director and I catch anything his name is attached to because it's near guaranteed to be quality.

Stop getting PC and political with movies...they're for entertainment.

Not very original, but 'We accept the love we think we deserve.' Brilliant.
