What happened to Salt/Caine?

What happened to him in the end?

reply

His brain was fried by Kingsley/Lamb near the end middle/end of the movie. That big machine with the crank and wheel generated electricity. He was never the same again.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

I thought he was faking it, and was going to do something important towards the end. Nothing happened.

Excuse my English please, not a native speaker.

reply

I thought he might be faking also so that they would stop shocking him.

reply

I didn't think that he was faking it, but I also expected him to recover his senses enough to have some significant role in the film afterwards. I guess the story needed the contrivance of having both Silas and Salt semi-vegetables at the end as punishment for their mirror-image cruelties.

reply

actually it was more of an inside joke between Lamb and Salt. both were doctors and both were seem to have some animosity towards each other. the chess game was a testimony of that and Lamb winning the game is more like saying he was better or right even in their catatonic state. I laughed on that part because it made sense.

reply

Salt was sadistic and tortured his patients. When the two workers escaped and never came back, I think he just went off the deep end and ended up as one of the patients. What goes around comes around.

Did you miss the scene where Salt is administered the electric shock to his temples by Lamb and by "Newgate"? Salt wasn't driven insane by the death of the two workers or even by being imprisoned, he suffered brain damage from the electricity. Immediately after the shock, it's clear that he didn't remember who he was or where he was.

reply

I probably feel asleep on that part. Kind of a long movie. Thanks for the clarification. By the way, did they get the ogre out or did he just burn up in the fire? 😞

Kind of a long movie.

Hour and 45 minutes. How short do you like your movies 😉

He's the new doorman in the scene where the real Dr. Newgate (Brendan Gleeson's character) comes to the asylum.

reply

Thanks! I will re-watch the movie and look for him in that scene! 😃

Part of the side effect of ECT (Electroconvulsive therapy). If it done correctly, it will change the brain's wave and reverse the brain mechanism. Like going back to certain time such as reversing a mental illness. ECT used to treat people with depression. The side effect is usually jumble or lost memories.

Lamb said that the ECT is a new therapy, and he is experimenting it. He fried Salt's brain to a blank state which he forgot his own identity.
