Electroshock therapy

From what I remember, Lamb refers to electrosohck therapy as his "own devising" and that he was pioneering a new experiment. So I figure the writer of the movie made it that, within the universe of Stonehearst Asylum at least, Lamb was the person who invented electroshock therapy.

If you remember when the young Dr. Newgate arrived at the asylum and was waiting in the office to meet the man in charge, he played with a small device very similar that was connected to frogs legs which would contract when the energy was cranked

I WANT TO KNOW WHY YOU KEPT THINKING ABOUT THIS TERRIBLE MOVIE FOR ONE SECOND AFTER PRESSING STOP AND DESTROYING THE DISC FOR FEAR THAT OTHERS MAY VIEW IT?
