The building's layout should have ...

... given away that there is another room behind the walls. It wasn't such a small bunker after all.

Yes. That bothered me as well. Any decent investigator would have thoroughly checked the building and property for a body. Still a great film about more than architecture. Heh!

Yes I am biased because of my line of work, but no reasonable person could live in a house for very long without realising that a huge chunk in the middle of the floor plan seems to be missing. Either there are walls that are 5 metres thick or there is a big cavity at the centre. You would walk from one room to another and realise it took way too long to get there! There are all sorts of other issues to do with structure, ventilation, acoustics, hydraulics, electrics etc etc and also there is no way that her attempts to chisel her way out would have failed, you would do it eventually, it's not like the walls were solid steel or anything. There had to be fixings/screws/rivets etc that you could take apart and free yourself from the inside... also this house was never designed for the room according to the story so how could you just plonk this hidden room in the middle without blocking circulation etc.. not to mention there is no such thing as one-way mirrors and sound dampening that can completely conceal a person screaming and bashing objects from half a metre away, certainly not one-way glass that can stand up to repeated battering with a pipe/chair etc without fracturing.. also she had running water, she could have created a flood somewhere and it would have leaked out, and they would have called a plumber who straight away would have discovered the room.. ... but nevermind! Good movie still!

Yes, in the movie Panic Room they realized very quickly that there is a hidden room in the house. Sure, the maestro was a hotheaded artist who only rented the house and was out most of the time. But the police should have checked the house carefully if they suspected that the maestro could have done something to the lost girl.
