I'm confused

IMDB has this as a 2011 TV series but USA Network is advertising it as an original movie debuting next week. Is this a movie or the pilot episode from a failed series?

reply

The latter, it wasn't picked up but they're airing the pilot as a 'movie'.

reply

That's what I thought. Thanks.

I started watching it about a half hour in, and thought it seemed really good...so I stopped, and set it to tape the next time its on so I could see the whole thing. I thought it was going to be the first episode of a new show with a cool concept...but yeah, I guess it was a show made in 2011 that USA was supposed to pick up and bailed on...I wonder if it'll end leaving us hanging for an "episode 2" or if they wrapped up the pilot for this "movie"...

I did some reading and found out that in 2011, USA was doing really well - they had the #1 spot in cable ratings and ordered 6 new pilots intended to help them remain on top. Those shows were in 2 batches:

Batch 1
B1-1. Necessary Roughness - I don't watch this, but it seems to be doing well, going into its 3rd season
B1-2. Common Law - One season ran from May-Aug and was canceled. Those that got into it seem bummed, but the problem was, there werent many who were into it!
B1-3. A Legal Mind - The original name for the show that became "SUITS" and I LOVE this show. Glad they didn't sh*tcan that one too soon. The remaining 6 episodes of Season 2 start Jan 17th and I'm looking forward to it! They left it hanging pretty good. It has also been picked up for a 3rd season - 16 episodes. NICE!

Batch 2
B2-4. Over/Under - Pilot airing tonight, Jan 4, 2013 as a 2 hour "movie"
B2-5. Eden - Passed on the Pilot
B2-6. Wild Card - ...

...This seemed like an interesting show. It was also written/executive produced by Stephen Godchaux who did another show that I really liked (that ended way too soon)..."Dead Like Me"

"What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas... but only if you have a good lawyer. In this witty procedural about people behaving badly, two very different lawyers handle the type of problems that happen after the sun goes down and need to be solved before the sun comes up."

Had a decent cast lined up and seemed like a decent concept...who knows if that'll ever surface as a show or a 2 hour movie or remain shelved forever. Not sure what "Eden" was all about.

Just figured I'd share my findings for those who may have ended up here with the same curiosities as I did.

Cheers!

Thanks hellodon, for putting up such a good, concise evaluation!

"EDEN is from Universal Cable Prods. and written by Ken and Mary Hanes (Til Death Do Us Part). The show centers on a young hotel worker who, with the help of his escaped con artist cousin Eddie, gets a job as the concierge at an elite NYC hotel. Together they manage to provide the hotel guests with whatever they desire, at whatever the cost."

I liked the 2 hour movie, but it did leave me wanting to see more, too many story lines left "hanging" to me

I love it when Jugalos are on TV shows..... There was a great episode of Workaholics with some :)

"Wherever you go, there you are"

I thought the storyline was quite promising... if they did just run the pilot as a movie, perhaps they're contemplating another go at it.

reply

Well, considering Steven Pasquale has a new gig on NBC, I don't think this will get a second life. Could have had potential though.

I see what the writers were going for i.e. the series to be "different" but at the same time they rely on way too many stereotypes and got lost in the details (the subway scene?) not seeing the elephant in the room: the story being very similar to the original and highly successful TV-series "Suits". Any thoughts?

reply

Seriously. I was like... "People, the subway isn't like that AT ALL" Unless you're on shrooms. LOL. Maybe one creepy person, but not like a menagerie of insanity. All the italian stuff too.. I liked that his wife was completely unlikable in that way some people in NY cant help but being.

I could of sworn that during the movie there was one of those pop up blobs on the bottom corner of the screen that said something like new series starts Jan 17th. I thought it was a bit edgy (maybe too much so for USA) which isn't usually my thing but figured I'd watch it anyway as I typically like the dramas on USA. Maybe I misread and it was talking about Suits, which did come back last night.
