Great season finale!

I laughed, I cried, was shocked a couple of times. Good stuff.

I loved it too. This episode was alot more serious in nature--it started off light--but still mantained that signature CL comedic undertone throughout.
What I want to know is what is that powder Wes & Travis referred to as "snow/smoke? storm?" Is it cocaine or something else?

I love how they took the exaggerated moments that both of them were telling to Dr. Ryan at the beginning and showed how it was a really intense and emotional moment when they got to that point after telling the whole story. With Wes willing to sacrifice his reputation and his job to make sure Travis didn't do something in the heat of the moment that he'd regret later.

And then the break in the story when they realize the yoga class is sitting there listening. Great stuff.

This episode had everything that makes this series great.

Yeah. It's either cocaine or some other white powdery drug.

It really was well done all the way through. I had planned to say something else in my first post. My net connection was so slow it took 2 hours just to get the thread started, but that was the gist of it. lol

It was...interesting seeing the captain in a different state of mind in the flashbacks. It made me wonder if he's going to regress to something like that with what's going on in his marriage. Hopefully he can continue to use what Dr. Ryan taught him.

Yeah, I lol'd at the captain beating the printer with his shoe...hahaha

That was funny. It made me think of Office Space.

That was intense. Poor Wes, actually getting handcuffed by his fellow cops and dragged away and Travis wasn't even willing to admit he was in trouble...no wonder they were on the rocks. And now I get why they were being so antagonistic and still wanted to work together-Travis wasn't willing to say it, but he needed Wes to watch out for him. And Wes must have always been afraid that Travis was going to lose it again. Very touching when Travis said thank you to Wes, and Wes said he believed Travis wouldn't shoot the bad cop.

That was such a good part at the end, where Wes was dealing with the one guy and Travis went after the leader of the gang, the one who killed Pacman. That was so necessary for him to confront the guy by himself and NOT shoot him. Now Travis knows that he has changed in a good direction and he has more control and responsibility. And Wes knows that when Travis says something he can trust it. And poor Pacman-they'll be able to remember him as their friend and not someone they weren't able to avenge. There were some funny moments (great touch with the yoga class) but it was a pretty powerful ending to a great season. Hope it will be around for another season and sooner than next year.

Definitely, I loved everything about that scene. The music, the way the SIS guys just go in all cocky and Travis and Wes show up in time to catch them, "Stormfront" again, Wes tossing away his gun and kicking that one guy's ass, Travis confronting Crowell and holding back by not killing him, the handshake afterwards.

And it was a neat little touch to have the baby masks from that robbery case earlier in the season on a shelf as Travis was chasing Crowell.

If there was any doubt in anyone over at USA's mind whether or not this show should be renewed, this episode should make it clear that they need to bring it back.

I didn't get a good look at them, so I didn't realize they were from the other episode. That was a neat touch.

Yeah, I did a double-take when I saw them. When it first cut to that shot and they were right in the forefront, I thought "what's with the weird baby heads" since it's an odd thing to just randomly have there, and then I realized they were the masks from the other episode.

And the way they handled the music at the end of it was perfect, the song was playing, and it cuts off abruptly when Travis bashes him in the head with the fire extinguisher and switches to the tense music as he has the gun pointed at Crowell's head. Then the music starts back up to reveal that Travis didn't shoot him.

Thanks SBL84 for confirming that about the white powder.
When Wes & Travis finally "came clean" to Dr. Ryan, it brought home alot of things for me: why Travis basically poked fun at Wes all this time. (Even the way he first told the story underscored how he felt about the situation. He wanted to make fun of it so as to not have to deal with how it was really affecting him.) He was basically trying to mask his guilt for Pacman's death. I guess he felt helpless all this time that he hadn't avenged Pacman's death. He also probably felt some animosity towards Wes for stopping him from confronting the SIS team, even though in his mind he thought he'd never use his gun against them.
I loved the scene when Wes told Travis he didn't have the monopoly on grief. That at least let Travis know that Wes, even though he might not have known Pacman as long as Travis, still felt some remorse for what happened and that he felt just as guilty and helpless as Travis concerning Pacman's case.
Both these guys are about closure and they didn't get that originally with Pacman. That explains, at least to me, why both of them couldn't get past it, and ultimately why they kept sniping at each other.

agree... loved the episode and I really hope it comes back.

Relax. I'm harmless.

reply

just goes to prove that a show doesn't need a big ol' cliff-hanger season finale ending to make viewers want to come back for the next season...

they wrapped up this first season beautifully; didn't make us wait for-freakin'-ever (like for 2,3, or 4 seasons) to find out why Wes pulled his gun on Travis...

i really thought the writing was XLNT for all 12 ep's...

i do hope it gets renewed for another season - or more!

as i said in another thread, "I these guys!"

HOME is where the HEAT is...

reply

honestly I think the part that I liked the most was that when they showed how Wes pulled his gun on Travis his voice cracked/had emotion and his hand was shaking a little

Relax. I'm harmless.

reply

I loved everything about that scene. Both Michael Ealy and Warren Kole did a great job there.

The way Travis grabbed his gun and started walking out, how Wes tried to physically hold him back and calm him down to talk about it, but he couldn't so he resorted to pulling his gun, as you said the emotion in Wes' voice, and how they both looked at each other as Wes was cuffed and taken away.

Even the setup to the story, when Wes said "you ready to tell this for real?" With all of their exaggerated joke versions of the incident earlier, there was a lot more seriousness and power behind that line.

reply

Don't know how I missed this thread.

Yeah I agree with everything that was said!

reply

I agree. i am glad we found out why Wes pulled the gun after learning all about the characters. It would not have worked near as well at the beginning of the season. Best episode yet.

reply

The last two episodes of the season were probably the best, and really sent the show off in a great way. Let's hope USA is as behind this show as I think they are.

Congrats to Common Law for its excellent season finale. The leads showed they can really "bring the drama" just as effectively as they do the light-hearted stuff. Hope we get a seson two!

reply

I liked this series from from the first show, but this episode made me love it!

reply

I loved the finale too but thought it was resolved a tad too quickly.

They definitely had a great set-up for a 2-part finale, there was definitely more to explore about the SIS background and ongoing beef with Wes and Travis.

Also I would have preferred if Crowl hadn't so explicitly confessed to Travis that he killed Packman.

Them investigating the murder as well as the robbery would have made it more compelling, but the set up for Crowl and his cronies to go down by the end was just too neat.

But that said I really enjoyed the therapy scenes - as always!
