started it but shut it down after ten minutes

So I'm supposed to be intrigued with or care about a lead character who plants a bomb on a train certain to kill innocents indiscriminately? Gee, let me study her childhood traumas and then I'll be more "understanding" and stick with a "spy" thriller.I guess that means I won't ever be watching the Dick Cheney story on A&E.

It was the mindset of the IRA towards the Brits, you're killing ours so we're killing yours. Btw, she didn't arm the bomb, so she didn't want to kill anyone.

Then the viewer should have been informed it was a harmless satchel. That may have made me stick with it. The earlier CAL worked for me on film and Juno and the Paycock live at the Irish Rep in NYC certainly made some powerful statements about the conflict. Thanks for your info.

watch the film and you will understand why it was unarmed

It was made clerk immediately during her interrogation. They explained that she aborted the bombing by leaving the satchel unarmed and not in the planned location. The intriguing question then becomes: why did she do that!

Do we have a sympathetic character here who is uncomfortable with carrying out bad deeds? It does make the viewer start to wonder.

It sounds like you missed these key events which I guess would make the film more confusing for you.

Making a "bombing" run whether it is a dry run, practice run with a mock up or dummy or shows me her character and I lost interest in following whatever behavorial redemption arc the writer or director may have had in mind. My decision doesn't automatically tarnish the film's reputation. It might be an excellent film. It just wasn't what I want to see. I would also pass on Gone Girl. Dysfunctional marriages were done well by Bergman. I doubt Fincher has the same depth.

Thanks for the cogent input. I doubt I will view the film again in its entirity but I appreciate your comments. I thnk the director should have made it clear earlier to keep viewers. I'm currently working on a screenplay and don't want to make the same mistake. John Poole wyncoteacademy.org

If you pass judgement on a movie and turn it off after watching ten minutes of it, you're an idiot. No explanation necessary.
