Tobe Hooper contractually forbidden to talk about this film...

Apparently he hates the film. Everything reportedly went wrong during the shoot. That's basically what he told us this week in Brussels. He was there to introduce a retrospective of his works, including Eggshells and his short films.

Not included in the retrospective : Night Terrors, Crocodile, Mortuary and Djinn.

But he included The Toolbox Murders?! Lol.

Anyways, I didn't think Djinn was the worst, and certainly not his worst. I thought it looked very nice, with high production value. The story was ... yeah. Not so great. But the visuals were cool. I gave it a 5/10.

They're coming to get you, Barbara!

The Toolbox Murders is a good flick. 

We'll have to agree to disagree! :)

There may be other reasons...

If you follow the link to the review on Variety (they hated it), this interesting comment from a reader is beneath it:

My understanding is this: The original Tobe Hooper version Djinn that I saw in London was completely emasculated by ImageNation. Something about the UAE royal family felt the movie depicted their country in a bad light. Artistic censorship infused into the film, the government controlled ImageNation had to cut scenes, reshoot scenes with a different director, change the story and the characters, so that no Emirates would be or could be evil characters, and that the UAE would not be depicted as anything short of perfect"

Well I was hoping to find a way to watch this movie with subtitles. Unfortunately with my first experience I had none. However with Tobe Hooper's original version being altered I am not sure I should really care about seeing this movie again with subtitles. Has this even been released on media yet in North America?
