Move Over Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies: Here Come the Jinn!

Unfortunately, from what I understand, the Djinn movie is in Arabic. If that's the case, hopefully it will be re-made into an English version. And, hopefully, Tobe Hooper will be involved in that one as well. However, there are a number of things coming out in 2012 that are Jinn-related.

The Jinn, a horror thriller novel has just been released: http://www.thejinn.com. The website has links to where it can be purchased and for the Kindle version. Here's the synopsis: The Jinn is the story of three American girls fresh out of college who join the Peace Corps and travel together to Morocco. While living with their host family in the ancient border city of Oujda—known as the City of Fear for its bloody past—the girls become ensnared in the supernatural world of the Jinn. These most feared demons of Islam, the Jinn, existed before man and live on Earth in a world parallel and normally unseen to mankind. Jealous of both man and angels, the lesser Jinn are commanded by Sakhr, servant to Iblis the Shaitan, to harvest souls of mankind in the Jinn’s quest for power and revenge. As the girls encounter the terror of the Jinn and each face their fiery destinies, one girl is aided by an unexpected ally to fight the Jinn and their master Sakhr. Her search to defeat the Jinn leads to the crypts of saints in the oasis of Sidi Yahia and the haunted catacombs of the Beni-Snassen mountains.

There is an English language movie, Jinn, that should also be coming out soon: http://www.jinnthemovie.com/. I don't know too much about it, but, from what I understand, the movie should help introduce American audiences to the horror of the Jinn (that about one billion people already know about). I'm looking forward to it.

Most English speaking horror fans might already be familiar with the concept of the Jinn/Djinn through the series of 'Wishmaster' films that came out in the 90s. Essentially they involve Andrew Divoff as a ludicrously deep-voiced demon genie who transitions over from the spirit realm in order to twist peoples wishes (usually by interpreting them literally) and do horrible things to them. They aren't very good. That book sounds awesome though.

Unfortunately, after all the years we are still being fed zombie gruel. Why do you think we have so many vegetarians now?
