Tim not showing up for movie date

Honestly, I don't think Tim would have stood Janice up like that at the movie (date). This part of the film really didn't make sense to me and is the only thing I didn't like. I understand that he was upset and hurt but really......standing someone up especially when they have planned a date with you and family members (to meet her sister and brother in-law) definitely shows weakness of character and severe lack of consideration...

At least they could have shown him trying to get in touch with her..Maybe leaving a voice message or something.

He was hurt because he saw Doug all over her on the street and kissing her. He didn't know what to do and felt like she was lying to him.

reply

Obviously, I understand this...STILL he should call her and tell her he can't make the date due to something that came up. NOT stand her up! That is just rude and disrespectful and cowardly (this is why I don't think that he would have done this)...He can deal with it however he wants to, after he cancels the date....

But I see that it makes for a more interesting movie to see her standing alone and waiting, waiting, waiting.....

I agree. Standing someone up is a drastic move. Very few people would just coldly leave someone standing alone in a theater lobby. Honestly, if a friend of mine did that, I would think they'd been in a car wreck.

In real life he would have cancelled with a lame excuse. If he wanted to be passive-aggressive he'd wait until the last minute.

(Of course, in real adult life he would have talked to her about it, but that's not very "Three's Company.")

He thought she was cheating on him. Granted, he was wrong, but had he been right Tim would have been perfectly justified in standing her up. Cheating on your partner is cowardly and disrespectful.

Exactly. I've never been stood up or stood anyone up...at least not on purpose lol However, if I saw what Tim saw, honestly I'd have been tempted to do it, too. Passive-aggressive, sure, but we're talking about feelings of hurt, betrayal, human beings, and human emotions here, which are by nature unpredictable (otherwise we'd all be mechanical men and women lol). Weak, maybe, but that's part of being human. So it always kinda creeps me out when people go into "alpha mode" (lol) and talk about "weakness of character" or whatever. Seems kinda self righteous, since no one is perfect. As if any of us truly know how we'd react unless we were in that situation ourselves. I swear, a little empathy would go a long way with most people.

I'm just waiting for one relationship movie where the couple does not get into a fight and then make up again over some silly misunderstanding. Like, how often does that happen in real life?

reply

mmmm all the time?!

reply

So he was upset enough to not show up to work but you think he should still be polite and cancel? Based on what he saw, she was a liar that was carrying on a relationship with someone else. At that point he didn't owe her anything. Yes it was a misunderstanding but the onus was on her to clear up her mistake. She shouldn't have gone along with the double date and let another guy put his arm around her.

reply

Have you dated in the last 7 yrs... There seems to be a lot of scumy dudes now days.. I think the average guy today wouldn´t have let her explain..

reply

I don't think he did, it was like he left coz she was with another guy
so he prolly never thought abt that date on Friday after seeing her on Thursday with the author
plus what I found to be weird is he wanting to hold her hands after a couple of sentences she said to him later when he was the Giant Mechanical Man, she said it was one night thing and got complicated and haven't explained that the author did that to her and that she asked him to stop later
so I can't see why he was like nothing happened and it was ok without her explanation.

"It is never about what happened, it is only how you look at it!"

reply

Hmmm, see he really had strong feelings for her. And he was very hurt seeing her with the other guy. The date wouldn't have even been on his mind.
