Cute movie, but I one thing ...

We see the two go to a party ... and they have really good friends.
I don't think either of them would be such losers if they really had
so many prosperous friends. If not, like in real life, there would be
something wrong with them that does not show up in the movie
version of life.

The only losers I saw in the film were the two guys talking about a new car and a TV. They didn't really have a lot of prosperous friends it was just a work function.

Oh the two as in the male and female leads. I got confused because it didn't make any sense when you referred to them as losers.

Most circles of friends encompass people of differing socio-economic circumstances. They needn't all have been of the "I have no idea what I'm doing" school of life.

Agreed :-)

First off, these were HIS friends. She just met them. Second, what exactly makes them losers? As the GMM, He is doing something that makes him happy and that he is very good at!! What's so wrong with that? Many people in this world aren't able to do things they love for one reason or another. As far as her, she's lost and confused. That doesn't make her a loser!! That makes her human!!

Agree with every word you said, so I had to quote it all :-) Agree with the other reply as well. OP can go stuff himself, haha. What's up with everyone's fixation on "losers" and "winners"? Why does everything have to be a competition? So sick of all that "alpha" bullcrap. Our society needs to stop viewing things in those terms. Until then, we'll never truly progress as a species. Because as you said, it doesn't make her (or him) a loser - it makes them human. Duh. Thank You. Finally someone else who "gets" it - nice to meet a rare kindred spirit on here :-) Wish more people thought the way you do - the world would be a better place. And maybe I wouldn't be so "crazy" lol

I'll just add, for that birthday party scene (at 1st I thought OP was referring to that, not the work function of Tim's ex), it was one of the few scenes that kinda bugged me and didn't feel as real. I guess because all of a sudden Tim and Janice are being so social and "normal"...was kinda jarring after a whole movie of relateable awkwardness and alienation lol Its like: Is he an awkward misfit or isn't he? lol Maybe just situationally awkward. And he felt more comfortable among friends. Guess I was just kinda hoping those 2 were more the "private", introvert type, preferring 1 on 1 company to loud, overwhelming bars and big groups of people. Guess I was just projecting (tough to find people like myself). Oh well.

But yeah, its almost like they threw that scene in to make the characters more "normal", as if they were afraid people wouldn't find them "likeable" if they didn't :-/ Just my opinion, of course.
