What Kind of Comedy Is This?

I haven't seen it and am trying to decide how I should watch it, since it has a pretty good imdb rating.

Is it a typical-ish rom-com, or is it more of a straight forward comedy (which includes parody rom-coms like "Trainwreck" and "They Came Together")? Because if it's a rom-com I'll use it as a date movie, but if it's just a comedy I'll watch it with friends while smoking some weed.

Thanks in advance.

A poor one. I like Poots and Wilson, but this was a snore fest. 4/10.

Screwball.

The kind of comedy that makes you cringe more than laugh.

It's not very funny in it's jokes but the cringeworthy situations are fun to watch and unfold

It's a farce with screwball elements. It helps to have seen earlier Peter Bogdanovich films, specifically: What's Up Doc?, They All Laughed and Noises Off. I'd also suggest The Last Picture Show and Paper Moon. Many cast members have worked with Bogdanovich in those films and familiarity with those films makes this one a treat.

It's like the worst possible unintentional parody of a Woody Allen movie ever made. It's so bad, I couldn't take my eyes off it. It starts off with the worst fake NY accent ever attempted by a British person. I was personally offended as a New Yorker. I can see why this movie never went to wide release. What an embarrassment for this all-star cast.

You just suggested to me exactly what I can't stand about Woody Allen movies: he makes parodies of his own movies! Ugh.

So, if you toss out Woody Allen, I'd say 'She's Funny That Way' is a comedy that is somewhere between a stage play and a movie. It's what I think about the television series, 'Modern Family' - it's somewhere between a stage play and a television series.

It's a translation of screwball comedy into the 21st century.
