Jason statham is a bald, stoic aragon. John Rhs Davies is a scruffy gandalf.
Sobieski is Arwen. Loken is Gladriel. Ray Liotta is an overacting saroman. His fortress is mordor. And the krug are basically rubber suited orcs.
Director Uwe Boll achnowleged this stating something along the lines of "its hard to make a fantacy movie without it sharing stuff with lord of the rings. Its like creature movies look like alien also".
You've got to remember also that basically EVERY modern peice of literature draws upon lord of the rings in some way, and the world of ehb was indeed inspired by Tolkien's middle earth. Being one of the best selling books in history, it helped create or popularise many cliche's in high fantasy, drawing upon inspiration of greek mythology and feeding Tolkiens linguistic fascination. So fantasy and lord of the rings are quite interchangable! It doesn't make the first any less awesome, remember the ninjas, the running on krug, THE BOOMERANG! All good campy fun. I was a fan of the Dungeon Seige game (I have all 3) and this movie is passable enough not to displease me. I own it on DVD.
