second viewing

Just saw it for the second time, so of course further thoughts, and details that didn't register the first time around. Spoilers, of course.

This has the highest body count, but most of them weren't even targeted by our new team. Laura wasn't their doing. Jason and Greg were purely out of necessity. Same with the three bodega guys for basically being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The psychiatrist was targeted for their plan. Quinn's lover, maybe intentional on their part to add to the body count, which is weird and unnecessary. But since Quinn obviously knew what was going to go down, makes more sense that it was planned, even if the guy was random. Potentially the body posed as Quinn's? Anika, targeted to an extent. I say this because she was killed more out of proximity; had she not spent the night, would they have gone after her at her place? Same with Gale's boyfriend. Most of them were chosen for reasons of proximity just to further their plan of leaving masks.

The rumors about Sam are weird to me. Mainly because why didn't Sidney ever get the same hate? No she didn't have a serial killer father. But it would seem like someone would consider she orchestrated the killings at least once out of a desire for fame. That was Jill's motive, Gale was floated as a suspect in 2 for similar reasons. It's not unreasonable. Plus, like Sidney, Sam also has multiple surviving witnesses who can back her up, including Sidney. Which is annoying, you'd think the others would make it a point to publicly back her.

Is it realistic that Kirby and Detective Bailey would share a work space? I'm not familiar with the ways of the FBI in real life, but it seems that they'd have their own offices in NYC of all non-DC cities, and not have to rely on the PD for that. But maybe they do it that way for convenience.

If everyone other than Sam initially only thinks of Danny as the hot neighbor, how did he have all their numbers to send them a group text during Quinn's staged attack?

I love that in 5, Mindy says "That's a lot of blood" right before passing out. She repeats the line after her first stabbing in 6, and Ethan says it after her stabbing on the train. And I like that she brought back "Never trust the love interest," though sadly wrong in this instance. But I'm bothered that at the end, before Quinn unmasks, Sam's last guess is Mindy. Really? I'm offended on her behalf and want to know why. Yeah she was with Ethan and last known as alive, but come on. I noticed this time, it's real quick, when the mannequin by Chad loses its head, he shouts "Beheadings!" because Mindy mentioned that in her speech.

Poor Gale, her torso must be a tapestry of scars at this point.

It'd be awesome and wild if the next killers would be Tara's parents.

It's sad how quick they were to believe Kirby was the killer. At that moment I was pretty sure it was Bailey. I never thought for a second it would be Kirby. It's sad because Kirby basically went through the same thing they did, and being the only one of her generation to survive, she's more a Final Girl than Sam or Tara. And Sam knows what it's like to be wrongly accused of being the killer, and in those shoes. She should have had more empathy.

Amazing how fast their DNA tests were.

Showing Jason and Greg as killers in the opening reminds me a bit of when Kristen Bell was a killer without a mask in one of the Stab openings.

The opening night was busy oddly early or oddly late. Because it's dark and Sam is at her appointment while Tara and the others are at the party. But I guess you can find a psychiatrist with non-standard business hours in a city that big.

Lastly, not of importance, but I think it's funny to note that both of the movies are set in the future, further down in the year from when they were released. Because throughout 5 and 6, the events are referred to as 5 being in 2022, and we see on Tara's phone in the opening scene that it's September 23. In 6 they refer to it as being a bit over a year ago, and it's Halloween, so. Just fun movie math.

Overall, I enjoyed it more my second time around, because the nameless dead bothered me a little less, they sank in, and as I knew no one important dies in this one, just a shameless cash-grab sequel with no real stakes, as Amber might say ;) Made my peace with that aspect
