a more drastic change in setting

These movies have been American, but there's nothing saying they have to stay that way. Maybe a future installment sees a character living in seclusion, in a cabin in the middle of nowhere in Europe or South America, near a tiny village, and somehow Ghostface still shows up. Would be tricky to make it work, yes, but might be doable. And of course there's a whole meta conversation there about foreign horror.
