Medicore unless your a JP fan

Jaime Pressly's role on My Name Is Earl is among my all time favorites. True comic genius, episode after episode. One of the really sad things about that little masterpiece being cancelled is the shelf of Emmys that Jaime should have won.

Smoke Sceen is pretty standard Made-for-Basic-Cable fare. Bland piano-heavy music, way too much shaky cam, and lighting so even you wonder if they forgot that there even IS a sun. The supporting cast is equally bland and forgettable, the by-the-numbers plot would have to be rewritten by Shakespeare and Bob Dylan to even APPROACH forgettable.

However, Jaime's role is pretty solid. Underwritten, sure. A genuine shame she didn't have more to work with. That said, she gives a dedicated performance that fans will enjoy seeing.

This woman has talent beyond belief. This movie, more than anything else, will remind you why you hope she gets better stuff in the future.

On it's own merits: 3/10
