2008 Article in People Magazine (spoiler)
I just watched this movie and thought that Ashley was never found again.
Not according to this:

She did come home for awhile, but at the end of the movie, she took off again - leaving her kid with her family. The last part of the movie says her whereabouts are still unknown.
