I understand that SF is the reason of MVC, but that doesn't mean that everytime a vs games comes they should take up a bunch of spots. A large part of the appeal of MVC is being able to pit characters who aren't normally associated with fighting games against each other. We've already seen what SFer's can do in their own games. They would just have the same stuff here with just MVC mechanics.
I would rather not have MVC3 saturated with characters that we have already been playing as in the genre for over a decade. It's more interesting to see what kind of movesets they can come up with for characters that don't orignate from fighting games. I do agree that Bison should have gotten in. I think he should have gotten Akuma's spot. But whatever. Ken however is definitely not needed. Especially considering both Ryu and Akuma are already in. And this isn't even the first time he's been left out of a vs game.
As for the roster choices(particulary the Marvel side), well I'm not sure if you know this, but Capcom has little say when it comes to the Marvel characters. It's Marvel themselves who have the final word. Capcom can ask for certain characters, but if Marvel says no, then there's really nothing Capcom can do. It's been said that Marvel denied characters like Cyclops, Gambit, and Venom.
The way Capcom picks their new characters is different from the way Marvel picks theirs. Most of the new Capcom picks were based on fan requests and popularity. IE Dante, Wesker, Amaterasu, Arthur, Zero, Haggar, Frank, Phoenix Wright, Vergil, and even though he was in the previous games Strider. The only top requested Capcom characters that are missing in Megaman and Gene from Godhand. However Marvel chooses the characters they want based on marketability. So all this talk about how wanted characters like Gambit and Venom are is irrevelant.
And some of the new Marvel picks are more iconic, have been around longer, and play a far bigger role in the Marvel universe than some of the X-men do.
