It's the insipid voiceover and story that's the real problem not so much the animation.

I found the story too cliche and predictable, and the characters too generic, to be worthy of the hyper-realistic animation that obviously took a lot of work to accomplish. I'd have much preferred a more educational and realistic documentary-style movie, as everybody had evidently been hoping for. It had its moments, few and relatively mild as they were, but I really wasn't very impressed on the whole. There were a few little laughs. The fates of Patchi and his father were fairly touching. But when it comes to dinosaurs, I'll take The Land Before Time, We're Back, Jurassic Park, Fantasia, and of course...3D Dinosaur Adventure. The game. ;}

It took a while to get used to the mouths-not-moving (or, kinda opening-and-closing-but-not-matching-the-words-as-if-they-spoke-English) character voices. That's been done to great effect in live-action (e.g., the Homeward Bound movies), but here it seemed awkward. Maybe because telling one dinosaur from another isn't always so easy. But yeah...the voiceovers and very basic "runt of litter is kind and brave and triumphs to become leader of herd" story just made what could've been another neat dino flick into something rather blah, dull, and, well...lumbering.

In the interest of time, let's agree to disagree--even though I'm always right.

Its weird to see both animated & talking without moving their mouths at once. It works for live action with real animals (Milo and Otis for example or homeward bound), but why animate it, so you have complete control, then have them also speak in voice overs?

Made no sense...

The animation was dire! Are you serious. How high are your friggin standards! The animation was great and the only highlight of this tragic film. The script/narration and wrap around beginning and ending were atrocious. They should have been scrapped and the film left to play with just the sound effects. Talk about a wasted opportunity.
