It was from Aaron's mum, talking about how and why she abandoned him - thus him ending up in the boys home, where he met Ed. It said how she wanted him to know that she always loved him, and that she had been trying to contact him. Aaron was clearly going to meet her and, hopefully, turn his back on the street.

All the way through the film - and the lyrics of the soundtrack - there is a very powerful message regarding the importance of strong parenting and strong role models, and a lack of one or both of these things is often why these kids turn to crime. Aaron finally, at the end, getting access to those things that had been missing in his life, and that had - arguably - led him down the path that resulted in the events of this film, was a logical conclusion.

Yes. This was one of the best elements in the film and Ed and Aaron are constant reminders of what happens to 'looked after' children. The film's moral heart lies in its conclusion where the real thugs and predators experience their karma in a very satisfying moment of schadenfreude for the audience.

I hadn't realised it was a letter from Aaron's mum to him. For some reason I thought it was a letter written by Ed to Aaron!
