Breathtakingly good - really, *really* stunning
Take the pathos of Cathy Come Home, add elements of the Long Good Friday, mix it up with plenty of gangster stylee, and you have 'Ill Manors'. It will shock you for every moment of its 121 minutes as you witness the traps laid for young people in a poverty-stricken urban environment, and goes further than any other film I've seen in illustrating the abject horror and despondency associated with, for example, prostitution.
This is by far the best movie I've seen this year. It's brilliant; truly brilliant. Not that it'll get the accolades it richly deserves, because it makes all other directors and studios in this genre look two dimensional. And all this was achieved with a budget of £100,000. Inspiring.
This is the beginning of a stunning career for Ben Drew. He's the Quentin Tarantino of his generation, and I can't wait for what he comes up with next.
