Jealous of rich people?

Anyone else think that some of the haters of this movie hate it because they're jealous of the lifestyle these characters have?

I personally thought it was a well done film and very entertaining and interesting and UNIVERSAL to ALL people despite the well-off characters. We all are aging, have insecurities, deal with family issues, etc. And keep in mind, this was more of a comedy than a drama so of course some of it is going to be over-the-top on purpose. It was good. I'm glad I didn't listen to the mixed reviews. Now I regret not seeing it in theaters.

You're probably right, todays generation are taught they deserve a nice lifestyle even if they don't work for it. I thought this movie was great

My hate for this movie had nothing to do with their lifestyle but the way they talked to each other and the fact that they were horrible people despite having everything still complained, blamed everyone else on their problems and treated other people terribly.

Nice generalization. Did you even read the boards before you came up with this theory? There have been some very well thought out complaints on this film and it has nothing to do with their lifestyle and everything to do with the two main characters being bullies and idiots.

if I would give you some money out of my wallet, would that ease the pain?

sounds like the typical american family to me. Yeah sure a lot of people are not so horrible.

BUT there is a reason things like The Karhashians, Honey Boo Boo and Miley Cirus are millionaires. Who do you think pays for that stuff? Who watches those shows? Who watches stuff like Jersey Shore?

If anything this movie was a hard honest look at how some people live in America.

That's just plain terrible, but I think you're right.

I've been with people in a public place when some drama in another group breaks out. I get up to leave and my friends say, "Wait, let's see how this turns out." What? No thanks.

I'm just expressing my opinion.

You may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas.

They may have had a nice house in the movie but they were also close to foreclosure. Basically the American way, spending money they didn't have.

Jealous of their overextended lifestyles? That's a stretch, isn't it? I'd say their lifestyle caused 98% of their problems.

Jealous of their lifestyle?! They're on the brink of bankruptcy! I drive a small car (paid for), my house is small (but paid for), my husband is my best friend, and I have two great kids. What exactly should I be jealous of??? Their loving relationships? *snort*

Yeah sure, whatever you have to tell yourself to sleep at night.

Don't assume everyone is miserable. Some of us have pretty great lives without living beyond our means.

No, it wasn't universal to "all" people. I guess some people have time to navel-gaze and think about aging and what life means, but most people are too worried about surviving out here and making a decent home for their children. They don't live like these people, who are trying to maintain a lifestyle WAY above their supposed means. And personally, I didn't grow up spoiled, entitled and disrespectful to my parents as that oldest daughter in the film was. I would've never gotten away with cussing out my parents. I would've been knocked the hell out. They were liberal politically, but they weren't liberal when it came to raising their kids. I think that today's children are allowed to express themselves a little too much.

And I think that even though these people have everything that we're told we're supposed to want, they spend most of the film desperately unhappy. Why would anyone be jealous of that?

Sister, when I've raised hell, you'll know it!

Jealous? No. But I do despise listening to financially well-off people blubber endlessly and uninterestingly about their petty little issues. I keep thinking, "get some real problems you tedious whiners." The entire movie felt like some phony, contrived array of sitcom scenarios where unreal people overreact to every little boring thing that arises. In this way this film reminded me of everything I despise about Woody Allen movies beginning with Hannah and Her Sisters.
